Hi!
I am having issues following successful High Beam radiotherapy for advanced prostate cancer. My problems are, excessive need to pee (4 -5 times per night), urgency to pee and empty my bowels bordering on incontinence at times and a severe burning sensation in my willy whenever I pee. My radiotherapy finished in late August 23 and oncologist said I was clear in December 23. Aremy after effects common or what?
Hi Nikkisdad.
Sorry to hear that you are having problems following radiotherapy. Unfortunately what you are describing sounds like the aftereffects from this but there are things that can help. As a precaution can I suggest you ask your doctor to organise a urine test as a burning sensation can sometimes be the result of a urine infection. There are also things that you can try in terms of diet and exercise, and I have attached a link which explains these. There are also medications so speak to your doctor.
Thank you for your reply
I have spoken with my GP who arranged a urine test but in the meantime started me on a course of antibiotics. The urine test came back as normal and I have now finished the course of antibiotics. I will read the information you have supplied to me
Well that is a urine infection ruled out. The antibiotics will have killed off good as well as bad gut bugs so you need to rebuild a healthy gut biome, which might also help with bowel problems. Besides a healthy, varied diet low in sugar and processed foods, but high in fruit and veg, it is often advised to take a pro-biotic for a few days and also try Greek yogurt. Let us know how you get on.
Thankyou. On my way to the supermarket for the pro-biotic. I will let you know how it goes
Hi Nikkisdad,
I have had an occasional burning sensation after taking a pee in an evening. In my case, it seems to be when I haven't drunk enough water during the day (plenty of other drinks mainly a mix of decaf & normal tea). Having a large glass of water clears it up quite quickly & the next time I pee the sensation has gone. When I drink around 1 litre of water a day (plus other drinks) I don't get the problem.
Hope that helps.
All the best
Brian
