Hi my names Neil and I recently was diagnosed with localised advanced prostate cancer.
Its been a busy time following my PSA test. Had MRI bone scan and biopsy. Talked to different consultants and today will tell them I want to go down the hormone and radiotherapy route.
I decided against surgery due to side effects and for me the risk of eye problems that were mentioned sealed the deal - I had a retinal detachment in April this year.
Looking forward to sharing with you and getting tips to help my journey.
Hello Neil
Welcome to the club you didn't want to join.
Like me your HT/RT choice was made for you because of other issues. It's not a bad journey to be on if you put your mind to doing battle with any of the side effects that come along. I hope you don't get them all. Trying to keep fit and exercise are the keys to battling the changes your body will go through.
If you click on the icon of the beach you can follow my journey for the last 19 months down this route - it may help you (it may put you off!!).
I hope all goes well for you, if you want to know anything just ask. There are plenty of great people in this community happy to help.
Kind Regards
Brian.

Hi Neil
I , too ,was locally advanced but, in my case, I wasn't given any option - HT/RT for me.
Like Brian has said, try and keep up with any fitness regime you have. Both HT and RT will fatigue you, and, long term it will help.
Make sure you are prescribed with Calcium and vitamin D tablets. The HT weakens bones and the Calcium+vit D counteracts the effect. My GP forgot for 2 years!
Finally, follow any dietary advice they give you to the letter. I was told to follow a low fibre, no green veggies, alcohol or coffee amongst a load of other food. The only problems I had, were when I ignored the diet over Christmas - not funny. That said others, I believe, have been advised to eat normally - this most definitely wouldn't have worked for me!
Good luck in your journey.
Regards
Stuart
