Worried about my husband

Hi everyone I’m new here, and so worried about my husband, he’s been told he has a psa of 46 and an mri showing what they think is prostate cancer and shows inflamed lymph nodes, we’re waiting on biopsy result, another mri and ct scans, the wait is killing us…my real concern is how suddenly my husband has lost his appetite and is feeling nauseous, I praying it’s just anxiety, but so worried that it could mean something else, has anyone experienced this.  I’m so sorry, just don’t know where to turn or how to help him we’ve been together  forty years, I’m terrified that I can’t help him. He’s 61 and was totally healthy, just had an annual mot and this happened!  Devastated.

  • Bless you so much xxx

  • We finally had our diagnosis..not feeling much more optimistic, Gleason score of 9 spread to lymph nodes no visible signs in other areas like bones etc.  starting 4 weeks of oral medication asap with 3 monthly injections.. it’s very much a blurr, don’t even know the names of the medication yet, though I did record the visit, we need to listen back.  It’s still makes us feel, like we’re in limbo and his nausea and gassy stomach pains are still stopping him from eating very much, he’s lost so much weight.  He was given ramipril for high blood pressure before his diagnosis, it didn’t agree with him, his upset stomach seemed to start with that, so he stopped taking it, his blood pressure is actually much better now without it, that was almost 8 weeks ago, I don’t know if it’s possible that is still the cause…seems such a long time.  Anyway our journey begins here! Thank you everyone for your kindness.

  • Hi Raven

Well at least u know now and it's not all bad news.

Best news is that it's not in the bones

Good he's started on hormones , that should get PSA down and halt further growth.

Have they talked about further treatment ie Radiotherapy.

    Regards

    Steve

  • Not yet Steve, waiting for apt to meet the team.  Hopefully medication starting in one or two days waiting for prescription.

  • He's probably taking Bicalutamide just now. That is to stop tumour flare when the hormone injections start. He should start the HT injections whilst still taking the Bicalutamide. He'll probably be having Prostap as that is the most common HT drug.

I was diagnosed as Gleason 9 in October 2018 and after three years of HT and 20 sessions of RT in early 2019 my PSA is currently at 0.2 so effectively in remission.

    Good luck with the treatment.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Omg…thank you xxx you have no idea how this helps me to feel.  Thank you so much

  • I was diagnosed last december with a high psa score of 33 and a gleason score of 9. I am on hormone injections and chemo tablets and i am currently waiting for my radiotherapy dates, it is a stressful and worrying time but the nhs have been wonderfu and macmillan nurse are a godsend. It is a long journey but it will all work out fine.
