Hi my name is Dougie , I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July . After having episodes / focal seizures which are still under investigation they found my PSA was 28 in one of the blood tests . ne is locally advanced and just on the verge of spreading out of the prostate . My Gleason score was 9 . My flow is terrible ( always has been ) put down to weak bladder . I'm having a turp operation September so hopefully that helps the flow . I suffer with the dribbles also . Good job I don't wear chinos . The sleep is terrible but with being an engineer on shifts it always had been . I've finished my hormone tablets few days ago and had my first injection 2 weeks ago now . I guess it's not really sunk in yet if I'm being honest . The sweats at night are not great . I'm hoping the turp fixes a few things as I'm up at least 5-6 times . I'm trying to be upbeat at the minute . Just waiting for am MRI on my noggin to see if they find anything . I had an EEG in which I had an episode so it's all documented . So a double whammy for me at the minute . Unable to work due to the episodes as I'm a CNC engineer and work won't let me near machines at the minute . They've been great about it and I'm getting support from family and friends . I'm keeping busy as I'm a self taught home barista , I roast my own coffee also which keeps me busy .
Hi Dougie and welcome to the forum. I was also Gleason 9 when diagnosed as T3A N0 M0 at the age of 71. My PSA was 15 when treatment started and I had three years of Prostap injections and 20 sessions of radiotherapy in Feb/Mar 2019. My PSA had dropped to 0.4 when I started RT, dropped again to 0.1 at the end of RT and was undetectable for three years. I had my last Prostap injection in June 2021 and my last PSA test in June 2022 was 0.2, so in remission at the moment.
My hot flushes were well managed with a combination of Cyproterone, Evening Primrose Oil, Sage Leaves and occasional homeopathic doses of Sepia (cuttlefish ink). The first 10 sessions of RT were easy but the second half really knocked me for six. It took about six months to get back to fitness after my RT finished, but I am now swimming a mile twice a week, walking about 50 miles a month and coastal rowing as often as the wind and tides allow. Oh, and I'll be 75 in a couple of weeks time.
Good luck with your treatment and please ask any questions you might have as someone on here will have experience.
