  • Hi

It would help to know your husbands stats, but with the exception of the TURP, I have been in a similar situation.

Both the RT and HT will sap his strength and stamina. I view the RT as not so bad, as it will ease off soon after the sessions are over. Having said that,   it's tricky to know which is causing the fatigue. The effects of the HT - including hot flushes - are still with me 6 months after my last injection.

With HT , it's very important to try and keep fit - by that I mean cardiovascular exercise ( running, fast walking, swimming etc), also do strength work - weights etc.  The HT drugs will cause muscle wastage and if he feels up to any sort of exercise it will help.

Finally, the RT may cause bowel issues, and its important to follow the diet advice the RT team give, to minimise the effects. Ask for a diet sheet, as it may not be offered. In short, any high fibre food is pretty much off the menu, along with caffeine and alcohol.

Hope this helps but get back to us with his stats and I'm sure we can offer more support.

    Regards

    Stuart

    Trying to get fit again!
  • Hi

As Scampoodle has said, Radiotherapy and hormone therapy can knock the stuffing out of you, the radiotherapy is to attack the cancer ( if there’s any left ) and shrink the prostate. Read about TURP, seems what their doing is standard. His cancer must have been contained. The hormone therapy is to lower his PSA and also helps the fight against cancer.
I know you must be very worried and frightened, but these people do these things on a daily basis, also a discussion about how they would treat your husband, would have been discussed by his team before letting him know, then if approved going ahead.

There will be others that have had this operation, they will reply just keep chatting, keeps the post live.

    Stay safe

    Joe

  • I've only been home 2 days after turp operation . I'm 52 got diagnosed July . My PSA was 28 and Gleason 9 . What I find difficult is the emotional side . Dribbling is a mare , and I've had odd accident since home . I'm on hormone injections too which make me have odd tearful moment .

I'm going to the toilet more now than I ever did , but assured this will settle down . I'm doing the pelvic excercises as they explained today all my symptoms are normal . The flow is great but little sore still and bloody slightly . The PSA was only found by a random blood test for abscence seizures which started before my cancer results . Still have the episodes ( let's call them this ) for now . Once this is healed I beging radiotherapy and hopefully things improve . I have a few friends who have had similar and do well . So there is light at the end of the tunnel .
