LH went for his second decapeptyl injection today and the nurse asked when his last PSA test was and he said he didn't know She looked on his record and said it was June; this was when his journey started and was referred to the hospital, but he had one at the hospital in late October when it had fell from 57 (or higher if it had increased between June and September) to 10.1. So she did another one.
For some reason this has sent me into free fall. I always get extremely anxious waiting for results and this close to Christmas with loads to do I am like a rabbit in the headlights. I am so worriethe PSA will have stayed the same or worse increased. And if we get the results just before Christmas there will be nobody to talk to until after the holidays
.
Please someone calm me down with the common sense this board is so brilliant at if I am over reacting or tell me what happens next if my worse fears are realised.
Thank you so much for listening.
Karen
Hello Karen (Dogs4me )
June 25 - PSA 57: Treatment starts and October - PSA 10.1. I would anticipate the Decapeptyl is doing it's job and the PSA this time will be lower than 10.1. You should have nothing to worry about and you will be able to enjoy Christmas and the New Year.
If anxiety (scananxiety - I've made that up!) is worrying you just give the Support line a call on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) or if you have a "Maggie's" at your hospital call in there for a brew and a chat.
I am sure LH will be fine - and as a Community we will be around over Christmas and New year if you need to chat/vent or just tell us you have had an amazing time.
Best wishes - Brian.

Karen (Dogs4me ), we all get stressed before results. Focus on things you have under your control and leave the unknowns to be what they are. Have a lovely Christmas.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Thanks David
I do understand and agree with the sense in what you are saying. But I have never been one who can do that unfortunately; I seem to disappear down a rabbit hole of worse case scenarios. LH seems to have mastered it to some degree though thankfully.
Thanks again
Hi Steve
his PSA was 10.1 at the end of October and he started HT mid September. The only other reading we have was the one that the GP took when he first went to the doctor back in June.
It is confusing because the hospital and GP systems don't seem to talk to each other...
Many thanks
Hi Liz
Do you mean you ring the hospital? I am not sure that they would know the results as it is the GP surgery who ordered this one. The two systems do not seem to communicate with each other. So the hospital will give you the results? I always assumed that they would not do that.
Thank you so much for your reply
Yes we phone the cancer hub and the nurses tell always phones back with the results . We live in Scotland so don’t know if it’s any different but it’s the one thing that seems to work for us . Bloods done at GP practice and the results are at the hospital next morning x
