Dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer state t2c, Gleason 7 4&3, psa is 13, clear bone scan.
It has been 5.5 weeks since biopsy results in which he got diagnosed.
Today he got a phone call to say he has to go to an appointment on Monday to talk to the team - they didn’t go into more detail than this.
Is this normal? Is it a pre treatment discussion? Afraid of more bad news so just hoping it won’t be anything too taxing right before Xmas..
any advice ️
Hello Concerneddaughter13fd2e84
It sounds to me following the clear bone scan - the MDT meeting has now come up with a treatment plan for dad and that's the meeting on Monday. He may well be offered one type of treatment or a choice of treatments and you don't have to make that choice at the meeting so don't feel rushed, he's not got an aggressive cancer and a little more time to pick the correct treatment path for him won't matter.
It's best if someone goes with dad to the meeting - 4 ears are better than two, and have a list of your questions ready - here's a list that may help you put these together:
Questions-to-ask-your-healthcare-team.
Don't forget to ask for a copy of the meeting notes to be sent to you.
I hope all goes well on Monday - do let us know how dad gets on.
Best wishes - Brian.

Your Dad seems in a very similar situation to me. The MDT meet Thursday and I was called in on Monday. If meetings follow similar routine steps the meeting will likely go through in more detail some of the information you already have. Repeat the diagnosis and staging. What percentage, how many positive cores etc. A personal risk assessment and the diagnostic grade. An overview of the treatment options. I asked some questions about these so if you have any now write them down. Lots of information in around 20 mins and easy to forget to ask your questions. I was on my own and didn’t try to take notes, just asked for all the information to be available in the app.
He has time to make any decisions and to really think about his preferences for treatment. I would recommend going into the meeting as an information gathering exercise only with no intention to make any decisions.
Try to put it on the back burner enjoy the festive season then come back to it in January.
Best wishes to you and your dad.
