Something that keeps cropping up on this site, and has never (not that I have seen) produced a definitive answer. Should, say, Prostap be administered every 12 weeks or every 3 months ?

I was talking to my Urologist yesterday and he, in passing, came out with a very reasonable answer to this question.  Before it can be used a drug has to be licensed for use (after all trials etc). This License will be granted with the detailed administration instructions, ie: quantity and daily, weekly or monthly doses. The timing of the doseage in the licence is generally what the drug manufacturer asks for in his request for a licence. Manufacturer "A"  might state weeks, Manufacturer "B" might state months. So the answer to the question seems to be: "What it says on the box".......ie: in the licence.

That still leave a discussion as to how long a month actually is........................I suppose it's six of one and  half dozen of the other.

  • Varies by manufacturer and "physician" I suppose.

My decapeptyl pre-, during and post EBRT, was 3 monthly but my usual practice nurse (ex-ICU, so probably thought in "hours"!) always counted off 12 weeks to the day.

I was taking that HT for 27 months in total (plus 3 I suppose as final one worked through) and other than usual ED (common enough over 75 cancer treatment or not) had very little impact on my QoL.

Unfortunately, after 4 years it is back with a vengeance. Restarting Decapeptyl. The oncology nurse who administered the first injection (on a Monday) stated in his letter to GP 2nd to be during w/c 12 weeks after the first! I am also on 2nd string doralutamide  -  only 10 days into the combination but apart from warm flush no noticeable side effects.

I have read nothing that suggests that +/- a day or two is vital.
