Hello there

my dad has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer which has unfortunately spread to his hip and 3rd vertebrae , they found this of a xray as he was in so much pain ( still is )

this all started 10 weeks ago since then , he has had

urine sample

blood count full

psa level one test , second test  tomorrow in the morning

psa score 135

xray

he is on pro stap injection every so often he’s been on this for 2 years since his kidney failed Disappointed

the thing is I’m so worried because they have left him ten weeks with no actual answers on what is happening moving forward and I’ve seen my dad get weaker and weaker , he’s got carers now in the morning as he is in bed a lot due to the pain , he’s has been given morphine to take when pain is bad , which he does do but he doesn’t like taking it

last Tuesday dad attended his ct scan were they pumped the dye round him etc and we haven’t heard a thing since apart from a nurse is booked in tomorrow for his psa bloods , does anyone no what happens from here because I’m really worried my dad is getting worse :(

I have spoke to a gp who I got out to look at dad and he said he was clinically well but due to the cancer he is off his feet and doesn’t really have a appetite and this is why he is weak

any ideas on how I can build my dad back up to the man he once was , I’m hoping we hear something before Christmas because my poor dad is suffering and i don’t think they should of left him this lengthy time with no treatment, he is only on one tablet beginning with a b and he takes one a day for his bones that is it !
If someone or anyone can relate to this please reply , hearing stories and real like situations helps me

thankyou xx

  • Hi Disneyland,

The lack of energy will be somewhat to do with his appetite and when I’ve been ill I have sometimes been prescribed steroids to help with my strength and to help with appetite and food intake. There’s a lot to do with the mind too. I have found that my mind is my biggest enemy and the counselling has put me back on the map.

If there are comorbidities then the complexity might slow down the reports and the advice from the multi disciplinary meetings but it will take two to three weeks for answers which will only be conveyed at oncology meeting you Dad has with his team.

    I hope that helps

    Good luck

  • Hello

I have replied to you on your other thread asking for more details. from what you have said above:

    * Dad's got advanced prostate cancer - he's had a diagnosis, I assume a MDT meeting where he would have been told a treatment plan.

    * It looks like the initial treatment has been Prostap to slow the cancer down and the CT scan with contrast last week would be to check on the state of the cancer (to check if the spread has now been stopped).

    * As dad has CKD (kidney issues) along with prostate cancer the combination of these two may well be causing his eating issues.

Sadly you need to be pro-active and contact his hospital team and his GP - make them aware of dad's issues and ask them what they propose to do about it - you need to press them for action otherwise dad will be just left to get on with it himself.

I hope the above helps, please do come back to us and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.
