Good morning, it was brought to my attention recently that some cancer patients have a named nurse, is this common practice? and if so, how do I get a named nurse?
many thanks
Hello socratesb8e0be
I think it depends on your Health Authority and how they work.
For Urology I was under Manchester University Trust and was given a named nurse (CNS Cancer Nurse Specialist) and her telephone number from day 1.
Once I was transferred to oncology - The Christie NHS Trust - and put on their prostate self management system I had 2 named CNS's again with a contact telephone number.
I would question this with your team.
Best wishes - Brian.

I am a Macmillan volunteer.
My partner has advanced prostate cancer and has a specialist nurse who only works with advanced prostate patients. He also has a nurse consultant (apparently only few in England) who prescribed his darolutamide, reviews blood tests, can order scans, do pretty much everything that an oncologist can do.
I have had a contact number to call should I have any worries or questions. Although that number is delivered to an answering machine that I understand belongs to a small Urology team a call to it will result in a returned call. In my case normally from the same nurse or another of the team if she is not on duty.
I was given that number as soon as I began treatment under the urology team.
