Dad had a transperineal biopsy a week ago.
Urologist said mri he had prior to biopsy showed 2 small spots on prostate so took 3 samples from one and 2 from the other. Although he used the phrase small spots he did say psa was high at 14.7.
They were very pleased that he had no urinary complaints or anything like that.
Another 3 week wait now though so more anxiety for results.
Would the fact he only had 5 samples taken indicate the lesions were small and likely contained to prostate, or were such little samples taken because it seemed obvious to be highly significant cancer so don’t need many samples to confirm?
Hi Concerneddaughter13fd2e84 , I agree with Steve. Do you have any info from the MRI?
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
When an urology nurse rang to organise biopsy she said nothing about mri, just that it suggested a biopsy was neeeded. Only info received about mri was when my dad asked his GP who told him it looked contained to prostate but likely was prostate cancer.
At biopsy urologist said 2 small spots seen on mri so that’s what they were sampling, 3 samples from one and 2 from the other.
Hi again Concerneddaughter13fd2e84 , in my mind that confirms that as only 5 samples taken, they are not concerned about spread. Sounds like caught very early and curable. Let us know how he gets on.
Best wishes, David

You could ask for a copy of the MRI report which should explain tumour size location etc.
Sometimes these drs can prevaricate .
Best wishes

Hi, It’s very easy to say try not to worry regarding the biopsy, but as Grundo has mentioned in his response to you, the biopsy is to confirm that there is something unusual which follows on from the MRI.
I echo the comment on the PSA, but we are all different, and I can only say wait for the results and go from there. I have everything crossed that the results you get are better than I’m sure you’re thinking.
Stay positive, and please let me know what happens and if I can provide any help / details from my experience I’ll gladly do so
Also - after the biopsy he was told he’ll definitely be likely to have blood in urine etc but he has had nothing at all like that after it and it’s now almost 2 weeks since biopsy took place - is this normal? He is anxious it maybe meant the samples weren’t taken properly or something ?
anyone with a similar experience?
I wouldn't worry too much about that, think there were only a few small spots to biopsy as per your previous post.
Any luck finding out more from MRI report ?
Hopefully.biopsy result soon
Steve
Hello Concerneddaughter,
The blood in the urine clears within a couple of days anyway & although I noticed it initially the first couple of times I urinated it wasn't that colourful anyway. My guess is that it's cleared quite quickly & wasn't spotted. I take it that he's still drinking lots of water anyway which would have diluted any blood.
Although not medically trained I would have thought it extremely unlikely it means anything.
Best Wishes
Brian
I had a couple of instances of blood in urine, but only when I strained when passing a harder stool. Otherwise none visibly noticeable. And I had a two week wait for biopsy result
