Oncology phoned checking I have had my PSA prior to my 6 monthly check on Monday coming.
Asked how I was and I explained that I was being sick either early morning or in the night which starts with a belch and almost all the time with a single hiccup or several hiccups.
Nurse advised me to see GP as it sounds like my stomach, I had my PSA done on Monday and the result came back as 0.23, I have been getting results of 0.01 for the last 4 years and the last one was one six months ago was 0.04.
I did see a GP over my stomach as advised and was fast tracked to a consultant re suspected stomach cancer, I saw the consultant yesterday and now see the consultants team for an endoscopy on Monday.
What I wanted to know is if the rise is significant and what questions should I be asking my Oncologist on Tuesday at my six monthly a
kindest regards

Hello Spud (Spuduknow)
Nice to hear from you - although not with the news above. I wish you well on Monday and hope the results come back clear - and it's being caused by something other than cancer.
As for the rising PSA the rule of thumb is intervention after 3 consecutive rises or a rise of +2. Personally the rises from 0.01 to 0.04 to 0.23 do not appear to be significant and I just wonder if the condition with your PSA rises and stomach are connected.
I think I would be asking that question. The other issue is that with the PSA being so low - it would be impossible to find it on a scan. Perhaps go to 3 monthly PSA's and keep checking.
I hope the above helps - happy to discuss further.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for getting back to Me.
I will make a list and add your ideas to them
I think that the 3 monthly PSA is a great idea and will ask for the necessary blood form.
I will get back to you and let you know the outcome moving forward.
Speak soon
Kindest regards
Spud
Hi Spuduknow , I was same diagnosis as you in 2017. Sounds like we had the same treatment and after about 5 years my PSA gradually started to rise. Once PSA at 2.0 a PSMA PET revealed a bone met. This was zapped in February with SABR and PSA now back down (see my profile). So the key seems to be 3 consecutive rises and over 2 before any action taken.
Good luck next week.
Best wishes, David

Hi Brian
As promised I am here to let you and David know how I have gone on with my PSA and my Six monthly check with the Oncologist.
The endoscopy for suspected stomach cancer yesterday was clear, but without any solution to my hiccups and vomiting 3-4 times a week mainly in the mornings and sometimes in the night.
I had my telephone consult which was my six monthly check.
My psa had been 0.01 since my radiotherapy back in 2021 a year ago, it went to 0.04 and six months ago 0.07 this week it has gone to 0.23
Today’s check was done by a nurse who told me that her feed back was from my Oncologist who had seen my notes said it’s fine no concerns.
I went on to ask for a three monthly psa due to the fact that my very first psa in 2019 was fine only to rise to 12 six months on.
This was to be incurable and aggressive also high risk with a Gleason of 4+5=9
prognosis 5/10 years
She said no to the request for a three monthly psa as the Oncologist said 6 months, as I hope you can understand my concern by asking for a three monthly psa?
Her reason was it may make me more anxious The whole consult lasted just 4 mins 5 sec’s
hope you and David are both good today and thank you for looking at my post a few days ago
Take care
Spud
Hi Spud (Spuduknow)
Well the good news is the stomach cancer scare has been put to be - but what's causing the hiccups and vomiting? Perhaps a question for your GP.
As for the PSA - a wait of 6 months would increase my anxiety levels - but that's medical advice so I guess that that!
Always around if you need a chat - keep us up to speed on your issues even though it's not prostate cancer.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Spuduknow
glad to hear you stomach is ok. My OH saw his oncologist a few weeks ago and he will be see. 6 monthly but has bloods done every 12 weeks . It’s worth asking your GP . OH would be climbing the walls if he didn’t get them 3 monthly .
best wishes
Liz & OH xx
Hi Spud (Spuduknow ), thanks for the update, sounds like good news to me re stomach cancer. As for 3 or 6 monthly PSA, well I have always been on 3 monthly so don’t know any different. I guess they are working on such small numbers that even with an increased PSA you are unlikely to reach the 2.0 before next Spring (just my opinion) based on the historic trend. Would your GP do one midway if you are anxious about it?
Best wishes, David
