I had the radical prostratectomy at the beginning of June. Successfully, apparently, I never had any symptoms so apart from scans, biopsy and surgery there was nothing to notice. My PSA is now less than 0.01%. The aftermath as discussed at a recent post op consultation is that the nerve damage, even though the nerves left intact, may take 6 to 24 months to recover. The result of this is no erections. I can produce some arousal but nothing like the previously rampant hard-ons I was used to.
I have now received the device and guides, cock rings and lube to counter this and maintain penile health plus some medication that apparently makes an erection more likely. It has got to be one of the least enervating tasks ever. Hardly (pun intended) a turn on. The longer term psychological impact is less interest in sex and less arousal. The brain and body are getting out of the habit and arousal has dissipated. I suppose I have to see what the pills do but it is a new thing and I haven't been like this, ever. I have plenty of testosterone, exercising well - cycling and fitness recovering with resting heart rate back to below 50bpm and doing at least 6 hours vigorous exercise a week plus walking lots (av. 12,000 steps a day) and core strengthening. Its an aspect of living with cancer I would never have anticipated.
