Hello Wave tone1

As some of you know, we have our first Oncology appt at the end of the month, it says "oncology combined apc team", I expected a consultant name Shrug tone1‍....does anyone know what this means? Am thinking it might be any specialised practitioner but with my partners diagnosis I really hoped it would be a Consultant.....

Hope you are all doing the best you can be Hearts

  • Hi

it might be worth phoning and asking the question.  I am not familiar with all the abbreviations even after 17 months of my OH ‘s diagnosis. I don’t know if your travelling to WGH there is another car park if your going to the cancer centre and it’s easier to get parked . It’s also next to Maggie Centre . We usually go early and spend a night of time in the maggie centre before just to settle after a long journey

Hope all goes well on Monday .

    best wishes & hugs

    Liz & OH xx

  • Yeah perhaps giving them a phone would be best option....we are going to Ninewells, maggies centre is right next to the oncology dept there too, planning on having a visit although my partner is not as keen to do that at the moment. We are about a hour drive to the hospital Hearts

  • Hi Polly perhaps a good introduction to Maggies for Paul would be to park there then after your appointment pop in for the code to leave car park i have a feeling he would be pleasantly surprised……. It’s not what I thought it would be it was so much better …. Just a thought.  Maybe a wee cuppa before you went home again.  See how he feels on the day.  Hope you grab all positives from the meeting and all your questions answered. Not too long to wait now xx

  • I had planned on popping in before appt, hoping  he follows meJoy.....our appt on the 27th is not til 4pm so not sure maggies will be open when we get outHearts

  • Ahhhhh yes def better beforehand in that case.  Parking is an absolute nightmare too as is the traffic on Kingsway…. We left in plenty time and still just made it.  Not sure when Maggies closes I think it may be 5PM which isn’t so great if youve left your car there Stuck out tongue

  • Hi Polly, the APC team are the one who carry out genetic testing, to find the treatment's'. most likely to work best for your specific variant.

  • Hi All

As for hospital parking it can be a nightmare.

Mrs Millibob has some appointments at Salford Royal and we use one of the parking apps. We rent someones drive a few minutes away for about £6.00 for four hours.

We know then even if traffic is bad we have a space booked and all the worry about parking has gone.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • I think the penny has dropped and "apc" means advanced prostate cancer.....sometimes takes awhile for me to see the obviousJoyJoy.....so its a specialised collection of surely wonderful people who work with men who have advanced cancer.

  • Parking can be a nightmare in both my local hospitals, free parking but often a struggle to get a space, even working for the nhs doesnt give any privileges thereJoy.....am usually quite lucky, just bide my time and wait....always got a spaceFingers crossed tone1

  • Hi

we are about  the same depending on traffic . You don’t need to have a cause to visit the Maggie centre it’s just somewhere to sit down and chill before or after  any consultation or treatment . We find them so calming .  My OH wasn’t keen either but when he walked in the door he changed his mind and sees it as his retreat and aafe space

    hugs
