Hello,

Just a query and I know we are early days into HT (degarelix), nearly 2 weeks since double injection.....definitely noticing hot flushes and some fatigue BUT my partner is not experiencing any ED at all (lucky meJoy), however, part of me is thinking, does this mean the medication is not working?? I don't want to Google so looking for advice here, is it something that happens over time, too early to notice or do some men not have this side effect?

  • Hi  , the main thing to remember is that we are all different in the way we react to treatments and medications.  Some guys don’t get all the side effects anyway so no panic.  The only way you will know how the treatment is working is the next PSA but in my view, the HT will already be suppressing his cancer.  Well done for not reverting to Google!

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hi Polly1912,

Differing side effects seems to be the name of the game where HT is concerned & in most cases it seems to be a case of mix & match.  Some lucky individuals can sail through their treatment with little noticeable effects whilst conversely some seem to suffer more than most.  Just goes to show that we are all built differently & in my personal view, as he's getting some side effects the fact that he hasn't got ED isn't a sign that the treatment isn't working.

In my case I was initially on Bicalutamide (stopped after RT finished) alongside Decapeptyl for 9 months.  For the first month I had little in the way of any side effects apart from a diminishing libido & then along came the hot flushes & a some tiredness (both of which were more of a nuisance than a problem).  Fortunately, ED was not a problem for me.

    Best Wishes
