'Stable Disease'

Hi All,

OH completed his Docetaxel chemotherapy, CT scan same week (though we thought it would be at least three weeks after completion)

We're waiting for an appointment with his consultant now, I know they have a delay at the moment, so we're trying to be patient. He'll tell us if the triplet therapy has had any effect (stage 4 with bone mets, lymph nodes affected).

I phoned the clinic today to see if they could tell us anything, and the staff I spoke to could only tell me 'Disease Stable' and that there are no new lesions - he did say that he could say no more, as the consultant's interpretation of this could be positive or negative. While it doesn't suggest any progression of the cancer, it doesn't seem overly good either.

Have any of you had this, and what are your thoughts?

We may have an appointment on the 18th, it's so long to wait, very distressing for us all.

Thankyou x

  • Hi congrats to you both on getting through the chemo, for me that was the hardest bit.  The cancer will have been hit hard by HT and then possibly killed by chemo wherever it is lurking, so I would expect all the results to show that the main tumour and any mets have shrunk.  Great that no new lesions found which is very positive, so you are much better off than at the start.  Waiting for results is always stressful, I have been at this now for 8 years (mine was Gleason 9 and in lymph nodes) and it is always hard waiting for results.  Our coping strategy is to try and think beyond our next meeting and have some treats to look forward to, but everyone handles it differently.  Good luck on the 18th.  David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Hi David,

    Thankyou for your reply.

My OH has health anxiety too, and so I've been dealing with most of the appointments/admin stuff. He's not coping too well at the moment, it's been up and down since the initial diagnosis in December.

He's sometimes 'forgotten' to take his tablets, or taken them at wrong times, told me later that he couldn't be bothered.

This period of waiting, when it's beyond our influence has become the same, with wrong tablets/ wrong dosage of meds.

Thanks for your good wishes, we just have to wait.
