Hello. good day. My dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and has now undergone radiation therapy and will be having his 3rd dose of Zoladex 1st week of July. He would love to go and have a vacation in the Philippines (his home country) by either end of July or early August, as he thinks and feels he will have a better recovery there.

I am just wondering if any of you had travelled on a long haul flight before after having treatment for prostate cancer? how was your experience? what would be your advice regarding urination? Dad still has frequency of urination but not as bad as it was before right after his radiation treatment. He feels quite alright now, no tiredness or body aches. Will he need a letter from his doctor to say he is fit to travel? Also, since zoladex is an implant, will he also need a letter from his doctor that he has a medication implant for security at the airport?

What did you do regarding travel insurance as well? Dad will be travelling with my mom and the ticket we were planning to purchase will just be one way for now as he does not know how long he would like to stay in the Philippines. Your advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi  , personally holidays are great at helping you forget about the cancer.  I am all in favour.  I travelled to the Lebanon shortly after RT and although I was tired my consultant was totally supportive.  Planning around 3 monthly appointments and 12 weekly jabs was the hardest part.  David

  • Hello

It would be best to check with dad's oncology team to ensure they are happy for him to travel that far. (I can't see a problem myself!).

He needs to take with him a copy of his prescription and all his medication in it's original boxes. As for the flight if he needs the toilet book an aisle seat so he's not disturbing people when he needs to "go".

We have a forum for travel insurance and here's the link:

I found the best quotes were obtained by telephoning the Company and giving them all my details.

I hope he has a great holiday Sunglasses.

    Best wishes - Brian.
