 Hi

Is there any danger from having a x-ray of my pelvis, I finished my radio therapy early last December or am I being paranoid

Cyril

  • Hi Safeways welcome to the forum..My Cancer was different to yours but I have had xrays in a variety of different places since including my pelvis.  So with that in mind and unless there is something in respect specifically to previous Prostate Cancer I would assume that would be ok.. That said I know that this is a very active group so someone will be along to share any specifics with you I'm.sure.. Best Wishes for now Gail

  • Hi Cyril. The level of radiation used for X rays is a lot less than that used in radiotherapy to the pelvic area and is generally considered safe but I always make sure that the radiographers know about previous treatment.

Radiotherapy to the pelvis can cause bone damage, and x-rays can be used to assess the condition of the hip and pelvic bones, including detecting fractures or other complications. X-rays can be a standard part of follow-up care after pelvic radiotherapy to monitor for potential late effects.

Radiotherapy can lead to bone weakening (osteopenia or osteoporosis) and even fractures (insufficiency fractures) in the pelvis and hip. X-rays can help detect these changes.

Avascular necrosis (AVN), a condition where blood supply to the bone is disrupted, can also occur after pelvic radiotherapy, particularly in the hip. X-rays can help identify signs of AVN.

X-rays can also help rule out other complications like metastatic bone lesions or radiation-induced osteitis.

If you are worried about it then speak to your doctor.

  • Thanks for the answers and reassurance.
