Hello. I have been on Bicalutamide on and off since first diaganosed in 2019.P.S.A was then1220.But since March this year I have been on it permanently 50mg.
I hade a P.S.A test in march and it was 22.Before that it was 32 so a good result. P.S.A test this week and it now 20.Should it have gone down more in three months.Oncologists appointment next week,23rd so I will see what she says. Derek.
Hi !
Just to understand. You were diagnosed in 2019 and with a PSA of 1220.
Are you saying that the only treatment you’ve had is Bicalutamide? Or are you on any combination with hormone therapy as well? What was your diagnosis, your Gleason score and TNM stage?
If the question you have is; starting on a PSA of 1220, only being Bicalutamide on coming down to 20 so, yes it seems to be working fine
Ulfnbg. In 2019 I was started on 150mg of Bicalutamide for two months then Zolaadex 1.8 every 12 weeks which Iam still on.I have no idea of Gleeson Score, never had a biopsy.Over the six years the Bicalutamide has been stopped whe seeing different Doctors. But after seeing the Oncologists in january this year I have been on Bicalutamide 50mg This year P.S.A was 32-22-20 now. Hope that explains all. Derek
Hi Derek (Summer and Winter ), while your PSA is going down I would take that as a sign that the HT is working. David
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hi !
as long as your PSA is going down that’s a good thing because it means the treatment is working.
It’s not unusual for a patient do be on double or even tripple therapies and Zoladex is a hormone therapy that suppresses the testicles from creating Testosterone while Bicalutamide is a androgen inhibitor blocking any prostate cancer cells from ’feeding’ on Testosterone. So your treatment is working when looking at the decrease in PSA
You’re entitled to PSA tests, different types of scans and also biopsies in order to have a correct diagnosis and in order to know if any other treatments are on the table
Hello All. As my P.S.A has only gone down by 2 in three months. Will my Oncologists who iam seeing on Monday change the hormone treatment from Bicalutamide to another type of treatment?Or perhaps increase the strength from 50mg.Or take it perhaps twice a day.I do not wish anything with side effects.Iam also on Zoladex every twelve weeks as mentioned.Any thoughts please.
Derek
