12 months since diagnosis of 'terminal prostrate cancer' and still kicking.
I was on the monthly Degeralix injection which was described by my consultant (Prof Alison Birtle), as the best on the market for my diagnosis but have suffered for about 10 days afterwards with the injection site. Large swelling, itching and very painful.
So she decided to take me off it and has put me on a daily tablet of Relugolix, which is a treatment that she was personally responsible for introducing to the medical profession and seeing it through the medical Council.
Been on it for 5 days and for 3 days had every single one of the common side effects from diarrhoea, constipation, head aches, joint aches, lethargy, depression and the rest. Good days and bad days.
My psa is now 0.02 and testosterone is 0.
Calmed down now so see how it goes.
On a lighter note, I managed to get to Twickenham for the Army v Navy rugby weekend and survived.
Things are building up now for my freefall tandem parachute jump in September. Raising money for the local Hospice, St John's in Lancaster. People donating big items which we are already raffling off as we get them. Currently an air fryer and next a 50" TV. Have organised a fundraising day for the day of the jump in our local pub. Asked for singers to do a spot throughout the day and evening and had to start refusing anymore after we got 10 singers volunteered for free.
On a bigger note, we have finally sold our guesthouse in Morecambe and bought a house in Bromborough, Wirral. We should be moving during the last week in July. Then I can finally retire and hopefully enjoy the last days/months/ years of my life.
My sons Lymphoma cancer has been behaving itself and not increased.
My mate, the singer in Morecambe, is still compiling his song list for my funeral. Adding any song to do with fu erals etc. Burn Baby Burn is still the opening number. He's a dick but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Then to top it all in a moment of madness, I put my name in the ballot for next year's London marathon. It starts at 10am and the finishing line stays open until midnight. If I'm the last one across the line, I don't care. I will finish it.
Anyway I've bored you all enough so I'll say "Chins up and keep fighting".
Hello Tomjef and thanks for the update. My husband was switched from Prostap to Relugolix a month ago and like you he did have headaches, constipation and seems to have more times when he feels down but the blood test last week showed that the testosterone was lower than it has ever been and there was no effect on the other results.
I am glad to hear that your sons lymphoma is under control at the moment.
All the best for the house move and finally getting to full retirement. Just a warning - we don't know how we found time to work!!!
Hello Tomjef
Cracking update and you are doing great. It just shows whatever the diagnosis life goes on and there are plenty of things to do and challenges to take.
Great to know you have sold the business and are retiring - you may find that you are busier than you were before retirement.
Keep on doing what you do and I look forward to next years update.
Best wishes - Brian.

HiTomjef, it's good to see how well things have been going for you and your family, and I'm so happy to hear your son is stable, I'm not sure why I haven't replied to any of your posts for a year, but I always read them, and would like to not only wish you all the best in retirement, whatever that is, you'll understand soon enough, but I would like to thank you for being the inspiration I have needed at times on my journey, your an amazing man my friend.
