   and to everyone else:

I have just heard from Ulls' wife that Ulls passed away on Tuesday 6th May at 6:50am.  He passed away comfortably in a Hospice.

I have known Ulls since I was diagnosed nearly 4 years ago.  He has/had a great character and I feel special to have had the opportunity to know him.  I know Ulls supported Sunderland, but I can't hold that against him.

I managed to get Ulls to join the Maggies' Prostate Support Group in Newcastle with me.  Ulls was there for me in some of my low moments and also there to share in some better moments.  Myself and my partner Tracey will miss him, as will a lot of you in the Macmillan Prostate forum.

I don't think i have stopped crying since I heard the news.

  • Liz, it's a good job the pads are not a 'one fits all', if they were, I would be about 8 foot tall and nearly as wide.

  • Steve, just looked at your post photo, why the Taj? x

  • Gina, India is my favourite destination, been all over India.  One time at the Taj Mahal I was just looking at it when there were no people in my shot, then all of a sudden some Buddhist Monks walked into view.  I couldn't believe my luck.

I've also got a good one somewhere of some young Buddhist Monks playing Cricket in Sri Lanka.

  • Oh snap, same here. I have been 4 times and love the place, the people, the colours and the smells of India. Tea plantations, spice route, tiger reserve  kerala and last visit was central area taking in Ooty and hill train. Been trying to work out where to go next. Not been to Amritsar and golden temple so may have to find a trip taking in that. X

  • Oh the colours! Reds & oranges especially!  I’ve taken hiking clients to Rajastan and also Himachal Pradesh.  Sri Lanka, too.  Cycle rickshaws before dawn to the Taj was a highlight!   AW

  • About 12 years ago we went to Amritsar, it was amazing.  The Golden Temple is "Wow".  They have a massive free kitchen on everyday, no matter if you are rich, poor you can get a proper full Indian meal.  They serve thousands of meals a day.

We got to look around the kitchens, massive big vats of curries being cooked.  All they want in return is, if you can help to prepare the food you are more than welcome, whether it's peeling vegetables, cooking, washing up, serving, making naan breads on their funny little conveyer belt.

The Chai is amazing.  We were the only white people there.  At night they put their "holy book" to bed with a big processionaround the lake inside the temple.  Everyone wants to be part of it.  I was given the opportunity of helping to carry the "Holy book" back in.  Something I will never forget.

I still have my "Hindu" headcover which I wear on holiday to protect my bald head from the sun.

The other week in Italy we were talking to an Indian woman from Delhi, I pulled out my headcover and she was amazed by it.  Also my Glasses case I got in Trivandrum in Kerela.  It was only a few pounds for an eye test and glasses made.

  •   you know what they say about the Taj changing colour, it's true.  Been there 3 or 4 times, first time it was pouring down with rain, then a sunrise followed by a sunset.  The colours were different each time.

  • Richard still has his head cover. Not sure if it is a Hindu one but described as a sultan hat. Silky fabric but with a cardboard interior so think if he wore it in the sun, it would be a soggy mess after an hour Joy.

  • Hi I hope you don’t mind me jumping in, although I am not on this forum.

Peter, there will be a lot of people on this site just like you, crying for someone you never met but knowing what a kind, supportive, caring, witty person Ulls was. My husband and I were privileged to meet him and Julie when we went to Durham on holiday from Scotland and. We arranged a suitable place to meet. We had a brilliant afternoon that we will never forget.

For everyone in this forum, Yes we were all the better for knowing him, he touched a lot of people in this and other Forums. Take care all.

    Love Annette x
