Hi all.
Well, its coming up to a year since diagnosis of 'terminal' prostate cancer and bugger me, I'm still here.
Consultant has dropped me to 3 monthly appointments instead of monthly.
As long as she keeps telling me I'm on 'limited' life expectancy, I'll take that.
Better than hearing her say Mal, you have ..... months left.
23 tablets a day if I feel a lot of pain, otherwise 15 a day. Plus monthly Degarelix injections.
It's slowed me down A LOT. No life and soul of the party every weekend. 4 pints and bed whenever we do go out. Being 68 years young might have something to do with that.
Still fundraising for cancer charities. September last year £5500 on my coffee afternoon for MacMillan. January £3500 for our local Hospice. In September this year, both me and my 24 year old who also has cancer, are doing a tandem freefall parachute jump for the hospice. Got the support of our Armed Forces Day committee and British Legion who have promised to help me raise in the region of £30,000.
Looks like we have a buyer for our hotel so hopefully in July, I can finally retire and enjoy what I've got left.
Chins up and keep fighting.
Thanks for the update and the continued positivity in dealing with this 'treatable' cancer even if it isn't curable. One year on was a milestone for us and we are now heading for our fifth anniversary of being told hubby has incurable prostate cancer so you have plenty to aim for. What an amazing achievement with all the fundraising and I hope you have a soft landing in September.
Hello Tomjef
Cracking post - thank you for the update. I love the positive attitude and just to pick up on your oncologist
I'm on 'limited' life expectancy,
well, aren't we all - cancer or not? I am not a great believer of professionals giving you a "time" - we are all individuals and I do believe in positivity.
You have reached the "one year on" now so you know life is good, keep yourself busy, enjoy retirement and keep on doing what you do as a fund raiser, as a supermarket says "every little helps".
I wish both you and your son well moving forward and look forward to your "year 2 report".
Best wishes - Brian.
