Surgery was 6 weeks ago and today was the post op consultation. Was very nervous on the lead up to it.
The histology showed that the cancer had advanced more than expected and was close to escaping. It had affected the seminal vesicles, so more T3 than T2 as predicted from the MRI.
But… margins were all clear on everything they removed and PSA good at 0.04. (I would really have preferred lower than 0.04, but it is what it is). Lymph nodes clear too. So an “all clear” with a bit of a negative aftertaste. I know I should be excited and happy, and it’s rather selfish being somewhat disappointed, but I can’t help feeling a bit negative at the moment.
But now nothing to do for the next 3 months apart from living healthy and hoping the PSA stays down
Yes - a great result. Don’t forget that PSA stays in the blood for a while - it doesn’t drop to zero overnight! It’s only 6 weeks since your operation, you’ve had no hormone therapy and your surgeon says that you have clear margins. YES, it had advanced a bit further than was expected, but the reason they know that is that the whole shooting match was on the pathology bench in a stainless steel tray! Excellent. AW
