Hi everyone. After doing a home test and getting abnormal results , I had an mri scan and biopsy all in 3 weeks   I had my results from my biopsy Tuesday and I’ve been diagnosed with PCa.   I was Gleason 3+4 with it contained in the TZ zone and it’s not spread to lymph nodes.   My psa is 22.  (Was 23.4) but come down a bit.   I now  have to have a bone scan which has scared me more than the original diagnosis .  The consultant and nurse both said it’s just protocol and I shouldn’t worry but my minds going into overdrive.  Any info appreciated.    Many thanks.  Simon.    Btw.  I’m 60

  • Almost all bone scans come back negative: but they have to check before putting you on a curative pathway that will concentrate in the pelvic area only .   With your statistics above, I expect it will be negative and you will follow that well worn path.  Read some bios on here (click the icon or picture next to a name of a person with similar stats or questions to yours).    AW

  • How’s that for a speedy reply.!   AW

  • Sounds like a very normal progression of tests and the feedback so far sounds a big positive in the negative and should open up a lot of options! My sequence was: PSA, MRI, biopsy, CT, bone scan. The last 2 as precautionary measures to make as sure as possible that nothing had spread, thus allowing the curative pathway to be followed (see my bio for a few more details).

Wishing you all the best for continued positives in the negative turmoil of PC and that you nip the bugger in the bud!

  • Hello Simon (

A warm welcome to the online Prostate Community, I am so sorry to find you here but as  (or speedy as he will now be called) said, with that diagnosis whatever treatment path you go for it should be on a "Curative Pathway"

Feel free to ask any questions, however trivial, you will get answers.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks so much for your replies.   It’s cheered me up massively   I was worried the bone scan was because of my diagnosis but it makes sense that it has to be done to put me on a pathway.   It was sheer chance I did a test as it was offered at work . I’m sure I’m not alone that when you get the results of abnormalities your world turns upside down.  4 weeks ago I was blissfully unaware    I really appreciate all your comments.   Thank you.   Simon

  • Hang in there Simon you have a bit of a ride to come But it has been found soon enough and its more than likely it Will be cured unfortunately our NHS has plenty of practice in doing this. Best wishes David

  • Thanks for your reply David.  It was the scan that freaked me out but I’ve realised it common procedure.  Cheers

  • Yes I can fully understand your thinking once you have got the bone scan over they are very likely to find nothing of concern which should be of great comfort as it was for myself.

  • Referred pathway with PSA 22.2u/L
    MRI-22 g, PSA density 1.0u/L, left transition zone PI-RADS 4 lesion Prostate biopsy - Gleason 3 +4 =7 in left target, less than 10% pattern 4, perineural
invasion.  This is what I’ve just got off the nhs app.     Not sure what it all means   I need to ask more questions next time I think.   Cheers

  • Hi Simon

It's a shock when you get the news but from what you say the treatment will be the beam therapy so your over the worst, For me the Biopsy was the worst part, the hormone tablets can cause discomfort but aside from some side effects you will be fine.
