Hi guys!
It's possible that this subject has been raised in past messages, although I can't see a way to search this Forum.
I had low-dose rate brachytherapy at the beginning of November and have been on Tamsulosin since then. Since the brachytherapy, I've had severe difficulty sleeping, and feel generally quite weirded out and unfocused.
Does anybody know if Tamsulosin causes insomnia? I'm currently taking it in the evening, would taking it during the day help?
To answer the obvious question: yes, I did try weaning myself off of it but after a couple of days I decided that being able to pee was more important than sleep
Matteo
Hello MatteoC and I hope the Brachytherapy is working for you.
I did a check on side effects for Tamsulosin and insomnia is listed. There is one school of thought which says that it should be taken in the evening because it can lower blood pressure. However, the NHS suggest taking it in the morning so, unless you have been told otherwise, I would suggest you try this and see if it makes a difference.
Hello Matteo MatteoC
I am now the apprentice nerd on the group and did read the patient information leaflet for Tamsulosin - what I understand is:
* It should be taken in the morning with food.
* Insomnia is listed as one of the rarer side effects.
I did a search of the group posts (search function at the top of the page) and found no other references to this.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Well well well Alwayshope . You are a star as this just might be the cause of OH not sleeping and in turn me neither . He slept a few nights but it’s back to the same old .
But maybe he will tonight as we called the Oncology Nurse and she called back with his latest PSA . It’s undetectable so we are so happy as the stress levels have been high this week. So it’s going to be a holiday booking soon.
Hope all is well
Liz & OH xx
I am so pleased for you and your OH Liz. Perhaps a little Jura in celebration might help as well? I raise my glass to you.
Hi, I had LDR Brachytherapy 5 weeks ago tomorrow.. I take the Tamulsolin in the morning and have no issues sleeping..
I had 20 fractions of radiotherapy 2 years ago. At the end of the course I had trouble peeing and was given Tamsulosin. I took them in the morning but found that night times peeing was unchanged, needing to get up once or twice a night but daytimes, I ended up having to pee every time I stood up. So I swapped to taking them at evening meal time and peeing has become a lot easier to control.
I have always struggled with sleeping - usually managing about 3 hours a night, so I don't think that's due to the Tamsulosin.
