Hi all I finished my initial course of tablets 3 weeks ago and have had my second monthly hormone injection,I've started getting up 2 or 3 times in the night and have been struggling a bit to start to pee it does get better in the day should I be telling the hospital? Thanks Paul
Hi Mace , we are not medically trained so if you have any problems, always seek professional help. Having said that, I am not sure you have much to worry about. When you say ‘struggling to pee’, is that just a slow flow or is pain involved (tell your team).
I suspect you are still anxious about the diagnosis and your sleep has been impacted. Once awake, you think you need to pee and not being able to go well forms a bit of a vicious circle. I am usually up 2-3 times every night and have been for years. Sometimes, I get to the loo and can’t do anything. My Dr wanted to put me on tablets, but I really don’t want any more drugs than I can avoid (as they all have side effects).
If it is giving you grief, try not to drink anything after 6pm and see if that helps. David
Hello Paul Mace
I am with David here (David2017) . It's all part and parcel of the journey - I am up 2/3 times in the night, I am lucky, up, pee, sleep. I agree though - anything medical like this, seek professional advice.
Best wishes - Brian.

Good morning Mace
My OH was up and down all night and struggled to start peeing . His comment was “ok anytime soon please as I need to sleep” which he relayed to our GP. He was given medication and it helped ( Tamulosin)
I am not medically trained but it might be worth asking.
on a very positive note . He slept all night last night this is the first since diagnosis .
He is currently on Abiraterone, Prostap and prednisolone . Plus Tamulosin . adcal & alendronic acid to prevent bone thinning
He had radiotherapy ending in January.
Best wishes from an awakened wife & OH
Liz & OH xx
Hormone therapy generally improves urination as it can shrink the prostate.
Most patients with similar symptoms will be prescribed Tamulosin in the first instance assuming the cause is an enlarged gland. Also consider asking for daily 5mg Tadalafil as this also helps with flow and ED.
I would discuss with the hospital as you don't want to risk going into retention with a trip to A&E.
You don't say if you are going to receive radiotherapy. If you are this may make things worse it can cause irritation/inflammation of the prostate. This was my experience.
Talk to the hospital and see if Tamulosin would benefit you. its a well tolerated medication which has minimal side effects for most men.
Rob
