Two weeks after catheter removal no control over bladder what so ever. When does this get any better. Peeing with every step and it's really getting me down. I did the pelvic floor exercises for 6 weeks prior to the op and regularly since but no improvement. How long before there is some improvement, however small.

I know it is early but anything positive will help

  • There is no one answer. Everyone is different. I had my op 2.5 years ago. For me, I only had very minor improvement for the first few months and then within a couple of weeks I improved considerably. It then continued to improve slowly until it levelled out after probably after a year. I wear Tena washable boxers which are adequate for day to day use at home. I wear a No. 1 or No. 2 pad if I am going to be out all day or doing heavy manual work as I still leak a litlle. It did get me down terribly initially but I have got use to it, feel I am in control of it now and really it does not impact on my life very much. My main recommendation is to remain patient. Carry on doing the pelvic floor exercises. Get a reasonable amount of general light excercise , particularly walking. Avoid heavy work, essential for the first month anyway. Go to the loo frequently and buy a cheap urine bottle and use it while you are out, if practical, if a loo is not available. You are not alone in what you are experiencing.

  • Thanks for your response. Yesterday was a bad day. My mood is up and down like a yoyo at the moment. I am waiting for an appointment with the continence service to check out my exercise technique, I can't seem to get it right.. hopefully they'll put me straight and  things will start to improve.
