Hello Triggerjim
sometimes 3 words can say so much more than many! For me, your three words shout out to me that you might be struggling big time?
on this prostate cancer journey we all have times of deep despair and / or crippling anxiety and fear/ panic. We’ve all experienced it and all understand and all give as much support as we can.
you’ve come to the right place! We will all be here for you …a troubled shared is a trouble halved
Thank you my partner just been diagnosed. Said its not curable
Thank you my partner just been diagnosed said it's not curable
Hello Triggerjim. Receiving a cancer diagnosis comes as a big shock to the patient and all his loved ones. The whole world seems to spin out of control and our emotions are all over the place.
all of us here have, unfortunately ‘been there, done that and got the t shirt ‘.
But , not curable does not mean that it is not treatable and not manageable! If you read the posts here, you will see that many many men with incurable prostate cancer are having their cancer exceedingly well managed! Prostate cancer treatments have improved in leaps and bounds over the years and the doctors now have many different therapies in their armoury! Not only that, research is continuing at pace! Who knows what might be coming down the line in the future?
I send you a big hug and wish you and your partner the best possible care and treatment so you can make lots of happy memories together for years!
Hello Triggerjim and welcome from a wife whose husband got the same devastating news in July 2020. Our world fell apart and we didn't expect to celebrate Christmas 2020 together because it is very aggressive and rare. Since then we have celebrated milestone birthdays and anniversaries and are still enjoying life TOGETHER. Yes we struggle at times, especially when there is a recurrence or progression but our oncologists say that they still have more tools in the toolbox. When you have, or are able to give us more information then we can try and help you through the different treatment options. Being able to express your fears and feelings with others who are going through the same is cathartic and reassuring because you suddenly realise that you are not alone and you can deal with it. It's not easy both physically and mentally but there is help available for the whole family. The one thing I did find was that I was stronger than expected because we have no choice. It has brought my husband and myself closer together as we fight this disease and we have learnt to live a lot more in the present. Please ask any questions and we will try to help.
Hello Triggerjim
Thank you for your reply - we are all here for you and can help you and your husband get through this.
To help us help you do you have any details of your husband's diagnosis - his PSA, Gleason Score and TMN staging and IF he's started treatment - what has he started on?
As an aside to this post I would urge you to have a chat with our Support Line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days) it's a free call and the guys and girls on there are amazing.
Let us know where you are with this and we can help.
Best wishes - Brian.
