4.00 A M : PROSTATE CANCER - AWAKE IN THE WEE (no pun intended) HOURS.

As many on the group suffer from either insomnia or nocturia Community member  has suggested a new thread where anyone awake can chat or record their thoughts at this time of night (or during the day). Let's give it a go and see. Feel free to chat about cancer, your support or anything that's on your mind at the time. (Please be aware of the Community Guidelines).

This thread isn't a replacement for the "No Specific Topic" thread and I would like to think both threads will work independently. Ladies and gentlemen the thread is yours.

  • No that's quite good advice - it's similar to that I give to people who have a catheter. People should be aware that with the "issues" we have it's very important to keep the "meat and two veg" clean.

I always remind men with a catheter to clean under the foreskin and point out there will be debris under there even washing once a day!!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • So…it works! I woke up at 1 and thought I should get out of bed and fetch my ipad. ( which was on charge)  to type something but went back to sleep. I woke at 3.30 and knew that was all the sleep I would have but did not want to face getting cold. The next thing I knew the alarm was waking us at 7!! Is this ‘thread ‘ the cure?!? Or is it the cold?

re men sitting down to wee - my husband started to do so during his overnight ‘wee’ trips so he didn’t have to put the light on and didn’t need to worry about his ‘aim’.

  • So…it works!

As it says at the bottom of the page "Help us do whatever it takes" - if putting up a new thread works then so be it. Even I had a better night's sleep last night.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Since being diagnosed I average 3 Pee’s per night.  Usually I manage to get back to sleep but at least once a week I end up wide awake at about 4am.  I never used to let daytime worries get to me, but now I am sometimes anxious about the smallest issue and if it gets into my conscious thought, well that’s it.  I do also stress during the day, which I guess is either old age or HT.   I guess it’s no good asking you lot how to overcome insomnia, it’s the others who sleep soundly who should be giving advice!  Sleep well, David

    Best wishes, David

  • Good Morning David (

It's a funny one that I have gone the other way - I used to worry about my children, my clients, money - everything. At the start of my journey I was admitted to hospital with acute kidney failure. The Doctor who sorted me out on Christmas day 2021 said "at least you will see Boxing Day now".

It didn't sink in until April 2022 when I was reviewing my medical records and sorting out my journey for the forum, just how near a possible death I had been.

Now everyday is a bonus - I am nearly always happy and joking, I love life and take every opportunity that comes up for me - I have stopped worrying - i just don't see the point. It's just the way I am now!! Life is great.

There's plenty of help and support at www.anxietyuk.org.uk. Your local "Maggie's" could help too - details HERE.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • I am up on average 4 to 6 times a night ,what helps me is just sitting on toilet and staying in semi sleep mode .after my 4am pee I normally sleep to 6 to 6 30 cup of tea time then normally have nap in afternoon

A small price to pay for survival

  • I'm down to just once a night now (touchwood).  2am used to be my middle of the night time (not for peeing),  it was my "anxiety time"

But once the hormones cleared my system I seemed to get more unbroken sleep.

I know, it's not 4am,  but I have just found this.

  • So, it’s 4.30 am and I’ve been awake since 12.30 when I thankfully awoke from a horrible dream! I have watched the end of a film on iPlayer that we started watching the other day. I’m wide awake but know that with just about 2 hours sleep so far I am going to feel very tired at some point during the day.

insomnia is a right pain :(

  • It's 6.35 here. Just woken from 7 hours of sleep thanks to a sleeping tablets which I finally resorted to as I was getting REALLY knackered. Am going to go for a long walk this afternoon whilst hubby is asleep to try and blow away the cobwebs which they give me. We both had a really tough down day yesterday but that was then. Today is a new day and off out for our Sunday morning coffee by the sea as I managed to change the batteries on the mobility scooter and 'Daisy' is up to full speed now.

  • Hi AH,

I’ve been up since 3 , there was a reason , I like American football and my favourite team were playing ( Detroit Loins ) unfortunately they lost,

Today I’m out again , meeting a group of guys that walk and talk ( proper blokes club) .

They do various walks across London , I wouldn’t call myself a regular, however I always enjoy it .

Enjoy your coffee and long walk this afternoon.

    best wishes

    Tony
