I had a PSA test and the results have come back v high, doc has put me on 2ww and I've been waiting 3 days for a call back from urology. It's a little worrying so how long does it normally take to get a call?

  • Hi, regarding my experience I had a telephone call within a week of referral from my GP to arrange a consultation the following week. Once the ball begins rolling it’s very difficult to stop. I’m sure they will be in touch soon.

  • Hi  - On Monday morning first thing, try phoning the hospital and ask to be put through to Urology Dept.  Tell them that you hope that they have had a good weekend and go on to explain that you’re not sleeping through worry about the 2WW. Politely request that they give you the date and time that has been reserved for your appointment (which will probably include an MRI scan). Explain that once you have a date, it will be something that you can aim for.  You said the PSA was high - how high?  AW

  • Thank you, will call the hospital on Monday, my PSA was 97.4

  • OK  - that’s a promise to be fulfilled. Call them at 0900 and take it from there.  You need to fly through diagnostic as soon as possible and start your treatment phase.  Don’t panic : there is still time, and you will have a range of very effective treatments available to you (technological and medical advances in the last 10 years have been phenomenal).   But press your case politely but very firmly. Tell them anything to get the ball rolling.  Just get your foot in that door and explain that you will accept cancellations etc.  Take a note of names of those who help you and use them to the fullest. Once you’re through diagnosis there will be time to pop in with a box of heroes or similar. Crack on .   AW

  • Hi Humpty 21. We are in a similar situation, as my PSA was 77. I was “red flagged” by my GP, and he pushed the hospital and I seen the consultation 10 days later.

  • Sorry pressed the send too quickly. Yeah seen the consultant 10 days later, and he said I needed an MRI and biopsy.

  • Thankyou, I have spoken with hospital who said that my case has been triaged and I'll have to wait for further clinics to be added. Probably now be after Xmas so will have it hanging over me a little but trying to stay positive.

  • Humpty 21, that’s good. Things are underway. Maybe if you contact your GP and explain how worried you are, he/she could perhaps contact the hospital and speed things up. I am slightly in front of you, but it seems we are on similar paths. Let’s be positive together!

  • Hello

There's no harm in being "proactive". If you have a number or contact details for the hospital - give them a call - tell them you have anxiety waiting for the appointment and can take any cancellation at short notice. (You would be amazed how many cancellations they have).

Keep us posted as to how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Will definitely ring them, never thought of asking to take a cancellation.  Thanks so much for the advice.
