One down two to go

Today a year ago I've started my 3 years of HT. One down, two to go. PSA finally reached this week its target of < 0.1, a good way to celebrate the treatment anniversary.

It's been a difficult year with the shock of diagnosis, RT, HT fatigue, hot flushes, brain fog, and loss of libido but it keeps me alive.

The last few weeks were slightly better as I've made progress with my bladder training (due to overactive bladder post RT) which finally allows me to sleep for 3 hours.

Raising a (non alcoholic, and decaffeinated) drink for this milestone. Hoping the next two years will be slightly smoother than this last one.

Cheers all

G

  • Hello G ( )

Well done - yes it is a milestone and at some point in this journey you will wonder if it's all worth it!! (I did!!).

I am 33 months into the 36 months and now if you asked me "Would you do it all again for a Curative Pathway" - the answer is "yes I bloody well would".

Stick with it - we are all with you - it's hard on the mind and body but YES YES YES it's worth it and you are doing great For me that's my excuse and I will have a pint with you tonight - keep the faith!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi L1m !

Wonderful news and very happy for you. Lets keep that trend now and kill of the prostate cancer beast Slight smile

Looked into your profile and if I understand you correct you where diagnosed T3 - something I suppose if your treatment was locally advanced with external beam, hormone therapy (3 years) and Abi (2 years)

Just curious, I don’t see any references to PSA before radiation and if I understand you correctly you reached < 0.1 at the 6 month after radiation PSA which is really really good from a prognostic value. Did you have PSA test done after 3 months after radiation as well?

I myself is also a locally advanced and I always take special interest in treatment paths for locally advanced, progress and also of course of any pros and cons during the treatment pathways.

Keep up the fantastic prognosis and it’s nice to here good stories of progress and results Slight smile

  • Hi  ,

    My PSA was :

    42.8 at diagnosis

0.31 at the start of RT after 4 months of HT

0.147 at the end of RT

    0.1 one month after RT

Up to 0.162 two months after RT

Down to 0.132 three months after RT

I then had a bounce up to 0.147

Since then is was around 0.12 until last week where it finally reached the < 0.1, may it stay there forever.

Hope your treatment is going well too

    G

  • Hi !

Good that they did monthly checks but I understand that it had you a little bit stressed with the bouncing even if it was low levels all the time and now when you’ve reached the < 0.1 lets hope it stays that way.

I’m doing 3 months and i in July I was < 0.1 but now it’s time again in October and I’m in high stress mode and anxious so, we will see.

Tnanks and you to Slight smile

    Best wishes - Ulf

  • Hi G ( ) that’s a great result and hopefully you will stay at <0.1.  I am 7 years on HT and now 3 weeks on ADT as well.  You get used to it after a while. Best wishes, David

  • Ulf ( ) always a little more stress coming up to blood test time but you are doing well.  Just stay positive which I know you are.  Best wishes, David

  • Hi David2017 !

Thanks for your care and really trying not to think to much but does’nt work all the time but so thankful for any help in staying positive.

    Best wishes - Ulf

  • The bounces were indeed stressful as you don't know if it's a start of an upward trend or just a normal bounce. UP UP is bad, but UP DOWN is fine, and I had two of these. In my mind it's like being two steps away from slight panic, after the first UP you're only one step away, until you get the DOWN, then you're again two steps away.

Hope your upcoming test will keep you two steps away!

  • Hi !

Understand what you mean and since my salvage treatment started in December 2023 I’ve been on the down side (except for a really big probable flare in the end of December to the end of January).

Well, I’m preparing myself of a possible UP but it still doesn’t help my stress and keeps me anxious. But, like you say, hopefully my upcoming test will keep me two steps away and I just have to wait and see.

It’s SO fun to be on this roller coaster don’t you think? Slight smile

  • Hi

I'm interested in the bladder training you mentioned ...I'm most definitely in need of that....do you have link to that

    Thanks
