I'm 79 and on Zoladex jabs every 12 weeks for life, as I was told my cancer was incurable but treatable. Gleason 4+5=9. I love being out in the sun, but read somewhere that I should keep out of the sun if on Zoladex. Anyone know if that's true and if so, why please as I thought vitamin D was good for you? I do use sunscreen of course. Thanks.
Hello Bas
Yes, with all Hormone therapy try and keep exposure to the sun to a minimum. No sunbathing and always wear a hat.
I tend to splash on the Factor 50 before I go for a walk and never sit in direct sunlight.
The Zoladex is working for you and keeping your PSA at 1 - we fellow Gleason 9 Club members need to stick together!!
Best wishes - Brian.

Hello Bas .
I have attached the guidelines but you have asked the question WHY. Hormone therapy increases the skins sensitivity to the sun which can produce more melanin and result in blotchiness and uneven colour. This sensitivity also means that you will burn more easily and you may find that you cannot cope with the heat as well as you used to. There is also a suggestion that the sun affects the pituitary gland to increase testosterone levels and the ADT works on the pituitary to reduce testosterone levels - more work needs to be done.
