Hi all I know you get man boob's as one of the side affects of hormone therapy but is it normal to get swelling in the pelvic area ive had a operation to remove prostate followed 6 months later with 7 weeks radiotherapy my psa after this has been non detectable but should I get it checked anyway
Hi Godbless .
Yes you should get it checked. Pelvic Radiotherapy can cause long term side effects, one of which could be lymphedema which is a build up fluid in the pelvis, groin or legs. This can happen months or years after initial treatment if the lymph system has a problem draining fluid away. It is usually managed with diuretics initially but you may need to be referred to a lymphedema clinic. My husband developed it in one leg and it does occasionally flare up and is treated by his osteopath who has been trained in lymphatic drainage and massage.
There is a section on it in the attached link.
There may be another reason for the swelling but anything out of the ordinary for you should always be checked out by a doctor.
