Hi folk, im looking for advice and your experience with managing night time incontinence and fluid intake.
I have locally advanced cancer, i am on 3 monthly zoladex injections at the moment. 6/7 weeks ago i had an cystcopy to diagnose small amounts blood in urine. (No obvious problems found, possible weak blood vessels caused by radiotherapy 25years ago for bowel cancer).
Prior to this, night time i was getting up 3 or 4 times to use w.c., with occasional minor leakage, this was manageble.
But now night time, i am virtualy incontinent, day not too bad, manageble.
I am being told by medical staff, that i am not drinking enough liquids. I have never been a big liquid intaker, approx 3ltr a day mainly tea.
When i try drinking more liquid, water im going to the loo in daytime every 30minures.
I dont drink anything after 6.00pm, but still have night time incontinence.
It seems like 3 times more liquid comes out than goes in.
How does every one cope with this.
Tia
Are you on anticoagulants? This can mean you see blood in urine - not necessarily causing the bleeding but makes what ever is causing a bleeding problem visible so that it is seen (does that make sense) and enables an early diagnosis of the problem. Hope you find out.
My OH has always drunk a decaffeinated tea from Yorkshire and until my PC treatment always had Nescaf* original but now drink decaffeinated
Bit about my medical history, i had bowel cancer 28yrs ago, which left me with permanent colostomy, on my 1st consultation with the senior oncolgist ref prostrate cancer he informed me that the radio therapy i recieved for the bowel cancer coupled with dodgy gene i have was most likley cause of the prostrate cancer.
Treatment so far, first 6 months daily hormone tablets, then onto 3monthly zolodex injections.
The consultant who did the cystoscopy did show me on the monitor the abnormalties to bladder caused by the rt
Recent Cystoscopy and follow up mri scan to upper urinary tract found nothing sinister.
Appointment with oncologist yesterday he suggested maybe the rt 28 years ago may hav left weakened blood vessels around lower abdomen area, could be causing possible blood in urine
No no on any anti coagulants, only medics i take are cholestral tablets daily and my 3 monthly hormone injections
I live outside the UK and do not have access to some of the brands but will definitely look online.

Hello Rob.
It's good that you have a possible explanation for the blood in the urine. Have you had any dietary advice on protecting your bladder? My husband has chronic kidney failure which can also impact the bladder so have to watch his diet. Things to be careful with like salt, acidic foods (oranges, tomatoes), spicy foods, carbonated drinks and fruit juice (add a pinch of soda), limit dairy foods (substitute plant based milks), avoid processed food like bacon, pies and pizza, limit egg yolk, caffeine you know about. In other words eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, lean meat, fish. Be careful with carbohydrates. Try bladder training and pelvic floor exercises if you can. Perhaps I am trying to teach my grandma to suck eggs but just trying to help reduce the incontinence to a manageable level.
