Anyone found a good pelvic floor exercise / reminder app?

Hi all,

I had a call this morning from UCH re offering my the op before the end of the month, but I felt I still hadn't had explored all the options. Pre Med previously arranged for tomorrow.

She kindly checked with a medical person re the other RT options then called back to confirm they weren't really an option for me. (PSA 4.92 (April 23), N0M0, T3a, 4/17, biopsy samples +ve, , 4+4, 'High risk' etc).

That was to be at a private hospital that had no A&E / ICU, 'not that I should need them'? ;-(

I was 'sold' the idea that the UCH was the place to go for this op?

She also started the conversation with asking me if I was doing my exercises and I admitted I hadn't. I hadn't because I thought the operation would be at least 4-6 weeks away, not just over one!

The next offering was for early Oct, a Saturday at the UCH but I remembered the comment of people who go into hospital on the week-end are less likely to come out. There may be more to that in this case as we are back in amongst the nurses strike times (that I support btw), rather than it being a weekend as such.

But 'of course', the first time I need surgery in 60+ years it's in the aftermath of a Covid pandemic, the Ukraine war, the NHS crisis, NHS staff strikes ...

But hey, my question ... is there an (Android) app that is good for reminding me to do ... and ideally time,  my pelvic floor exercises please?

  • Hi Able

I think the one you are after is the Squeezy Men £ 2.99 from the App Store. (don't think I am supposed to advertise things so if I get in trouble from above it's your fault!!).

    Best wishes- Brian

  • Thanks for that Brian,

I just installed it and tried to set it up but it only seems to allow a maximum of 6 sessions a day and I thought I needed 15 sessions of 10 reps each time?

Or have I also got that all wrong? ;-(

  • Oh no - don't over do it. I was told 3 sessions a day of 10 x slow and 10 x fast so it's right.

You could always check with your CNS but don't overdo it.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian,

According to the Youtube video I was sent the link to by the UCH they say 3 batches of 10 (with 3 second 'holds'), 5 times a day, so 150 times in total?

On the phone earlier I was told 10 reps, 150 total a day?

If I go by the UCH / NHS info the Squeezy Men app should cover it. ;-)

  • Sound like a plan. Mine may well be different as mine were after a TURP operation and I was learning to wee again after 10 months with an indwelling catheter so happy days.

Good luck with the Pre- operation assessment tomorrow - I hope all goes well. (I still think you should have had the choice between surgery and HT/RT - but who am I - just a mere mortal with an opinion!!).

Anyway good luck with everything.  (on a personal note spent the weekend in that there London - everything moves too fast - you are all in a hurry and the beer's flat - but people rate UCH!).

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • My husband’s physio has told him not to do the exercise more than 6 times a day as per the app. In addition to this he has to do them when he stands up to prevent any leakage until he gets to the toilet.

  • HI Brian,

No, to be fair, they have given me the choice of surgery or RT and stated that they would likely offer equal chances of long term success.

And I guess I'm, 'lucky' that way because I do have the choice, I'm not allergic to anything, and am still reasonably young and (otherwise) healthy etc.

I also don't have any previous  RT around the prostate area, meaning that was also an option for me, as would being available to attend 20 RT sessions etc (retired).

So for me it's trying to weigh up the initial process and then the potential side effects plus long term options.

I have also been contacted to ask if I would mind participating in a trial done by Queen Many Uni looking into pre / post levels of the metastasis of cancer in the blood. They will nick some blood tomorrow plus more when I have my CT scan in 3 months.

Whilst I don't particularly like London (I worked in there for a good few years one way or another), I'm fairly comfortable there, especially being 6'2" and a fairly fast walker. ;-)

When we went there recently for my surgery consultation, afterwards, daughter treated me to a belated birthday meal (I was having my bone scan on my BD then working on her car) at the 'Unity Diner' and it was a good distraction from the info we had just been given.

  • Hiya!

So should I be doing them before the surgery? I think they say we waste muscles at the rate of 10% per week if they aren't used so would that still apply to my pelvic floor whilst I'm all plumbed in for 14 days (is it)?

A good / older mate of mine fell over and broke his femur and after spending 5 days in hospital, he has what he refers to as his elephant ... and his goat legs. ;-)

  • I use “Squeeze Time” app. As million says not too sure if I’m allowed to advertise the fact. Works for me.

3/4 times a day 10x short and long, sitting, standing and lying down.

  • Thanks for that Canon Man (photographer, photocopier or the weapon)? ;-)

So can you over-exercise the PF?
