This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic.  It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.

It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.

I could have named it 'Waffle'.  Then I couldn't go off topic.

  • Hello Gina (

Well I am so pleased you had a great week in Kos - we all need  decent break. I am very lucky as mosquitoes don't like me and always go for Mrs M. ( I won't tell you we are off to Turkey on 13 October for a month!!).

I am so sorry to read about Richard - life is cruel and if it's out there he appears to get it!! It's great you have the help morning and night - how's he going to get to his "stash" of booze and keep it full??

There's much to be said when caring for a loved one to have someone from "outside" the family to help out.

Remember we are all here for you and if we can do anything for you just ask - and remember to look after yourself.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Gina, welcome back I have missed your posts. Sorry another problem has occurred but glad you got a break.  Best wishes, David

    Best wishes, David

Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.

  • Bet Austria was beautiful. I have never been but will put on my list. I bought a miniature of Ouzo back with me, but I am sure it won't taste the same as would have done in the sun. Just drank beer or wine whilst we were there but remember R and I had our honeymoon in Rhodes and we did seem to drink a lot of it then.

  • Thanks David. It was a break from daily visits to the hospital. I paid my carer to visit him when my daughters weren't able to go during that week.

  • Oh I am sooooo jealous. To be honest, a week wasn't enough. You just get to relax and then it is time to come home. It is five years since I have had a relaxing sun holiday and was so nice to just sit in the shade by a pool and read a book, total bliss.

He has been told he can't drive just yet, and also the garage have taken the car away as battery was flat as a pancake. So the booze problem is not there at the moment and I have hidden all the wine and my evening tipple well out of the way. He hadn't had a drink for over six weeks but did keep asking me to take him in a gin and tonic to the hospital!!! As soon as he is able to drive though, he will be back at the shops and will stock up for sure.

  • Hello Gina

I am so sorry to hear of Richard's continuing problems which inevitably spill over on to you. I hope things improve with all the input he is receiving. But... well done on getting away! I'm sure you needed that break!!! Mosquito's only like the best people :) (I always get bitten !!!) the bites sure do itch!!!

We have been here all summer intending to spending two holidays in winter sunshine. My husband has had a lot of non PC related health problems (including two more dashes to ED). The end result is that we are UK bound again. I was so looking forward to winter sunshine and am very disappointed. Oh well!!! WE've now got 3 different outpatient appointments this month and 1 in the first week of November. I'm glad we're not having to foot the bill!

Incidentally - there is a new drug for macular problems called Vabysmo. It has been used for diabetic eye conditions for about two years but NICE have just authorised (mid September) it for macular problems (can't remember whether it's wet or dry). Eyelea stops the proliferation of tiny blood vessels etc but Vabysmo does this AND stabilises the blood vessels to stop leakage and fluid build up. The risks are marginally greater with Vabysmo. LRI had not yet agreed to fund it when we saw the consultant a week or so ago but was expecting to do so and start administering the drug in mid October. You might like to ask about this in Peterborough? (It only costs £800+ per jab. But they have negotiated a better price for the NHS). My husband has decided to stick with Eyelea.

Yep - would love to have that coffee when you can get away.

    Take care!

  • Hi

Austria is lovely, went on a tenpin bowling tournament in Vienna, it was strange how it was light throughout the night.

  • Gina, Austria was amazing, we had free cable car passes from the hotel, spent most of the time going up mountains.  Lots of walking (at my pace).

  • Hi Gina

My wife who is my carer, never complains, she is petrified when I walk into the kitchen in case I fall, I’ve gone through many hospital stays and bless her she always comes and visits me everyday.

On my last stay, I had water on the stomach, they drained around twenty seven pints of fluid, the worst thing was, they didn’t drain it completely and I would wake up with a wet bed.

I have two knees that require surgery of some type and physio wants you marching around even though they no the problem.

In some ways I can see both sides, you forever cleaning, he struggling from day to day, it’s a catch 22 situation, of which I hope you get your cup of coffee with your friend.

    Stay Safe

    Joe

  • Hiya, oh no, your poor hubby and obvs you with more visits to ED. Would love a catch up soon.

V interesting about this new drug. I am on Eyelea too. I went for my last one a week before I went away and boy did it hurt. The last two I have felt the needle going in. It was a male doctor and I should have held his testicles firmly and said "now, we aren't going to hurt each other are we" Laughing. Anyway, I didn't and it bloody well did. I have another 8 weeks, well six now, before the next one. My last one was in the morning and it takes about 12 hours for the discomfort to go away. I have asked for another later one where I can get home, have a large whisky and cocodamol and head to bed early and sleep through the pain. Why does he not want to try the new one and stick to Eyelea?

Will get back soon re coffee.
