Hell

19 months after LPR received PSA result today as 0.10(?)

3 months  ago: below 0.1

6 month  ago:below  0.1

9 month ago:below 0.1

12,15,18 month ago :0.1 and today a nurse told me 0.10?

Is it possible?or there must be some writing error in date base or something else?

  • The doctor was able to check both my ldl and hdl cholesterol - ldl is the "bad cholesterol" and that level was low.  It was the level of the good cholesterol which was high.  Taking this into account and the fact that I am not overweight and exercise at least 4 times a week and am fit and healthy for my age the Doc decided another tablet to be added to my cocktail  was not called for.

  • Sure,in your case it makes sens.

  • I'm on Lipitor (20mg per day),since  today.

  • Hope you do well on it.  My brother-in-law tried that but in the end - after about a couple of months he couldn't take it as it made him feel faint and dizzy culminating in fainting at the bank one day.  He just changed his diet to less animal fat and meats and that worked better for him and kept his cholesterol at about 5

  • Did he use the same pills as mine?

It’s the same number my friend

  • Perhaps, he took some additional tablets apart?

    I take lisinopril also

  • Yes lipitor.  They were the only tablets he took as other than a raised cholesterol he had no other ailments - lucky man .  I believe this is shown on the list of possible side effects.  He was told he could change to a different medication but decided not to and just cut out red meat and animal fats and ate more veg and fruit.  Up until that time his chosen vegetable was chips with possibly peas and he never ate fruit.  It worked for him but he hated Doctors and his cholesterol level was only found because I chivvied him into going to the Doc to have his PSA checked and I don't think he had been to the Doc in decades so this could have had more to do with him deciding not to take the tablets once he had that experience and not change to others.

  • Since yesterday, I've tried to find even just one person who will be quite happy to be on that medication. Unfortunately, fiasco. All involved in statins complaining about several side effects, permanently. But my GP said that  there is much more benefits to take it than side effects in general.

  • Yes I know.  I developed Atrial Fibrillation (AF) about 6 years ago and am on an AF forum and there has been quite a lot of discussion about this.  The thing was a good few years ago these were the miracle medication and Docs were prescribing them left, right, and centre as they seemed to have so many benefits other than just lowering cholesterol.  This initial hub bub has died down and now they are prescribed less readily as they don't appear to be the miracle drug they first thought.  I remember the last time we had a discussion about this on the AF forum someone posted a link to a discussion paper on statins and I am pretty sure I kept it.  Will see if I can find it and post it as I believe it was very well thought out.
