Hi everyone, haven’t posted for a while, we have just been getting on with everyday life among the numerous appointments and blood tests.
Good news is that husband is tolerating Prostap well, six months in now, and aside from the expected ED and a bit of tiredness is managing ok. He still gets out for a 5k run four or five times a week, gets a few more aches and pains and takes a bit longer to recover, but to be expected after six months of ADT. Generally he’s still very much himself.
He’s been on and off Abiraterone since June, unfortunately it is affecting his liver, and his ALT has risen quite sharply, but oncologist has reduced dosage and is monitoring to see if it’s sustainable.
The question I have is how long after starting treatment did you have to wait for radiotherapy? Prostap started at the end of April this year. Initially Oncologist said 37 Fractions of EBRT to prostate and pelvic lymph nodes, this was then reduced to 20. She also said it should start within six months of starting ADT, but he is still waiting for a start date and a planning appointment. Six months have passed and nothing, she has written to the department who undertaken the planning and showed us the response, which just said it would be asap but they are busy.
He’s T3b N1 M0 Gleason 9. Might this delay be detrimental to his prognosis? How long have others had to wait? He’s doing really well and is so strong and positive, but this delay is starting to get him down.
Anyone's experiences would be helpful.
Hello Porthleven
You are aware of the process that the Hormone Therapy stops the cancer cells from growing and the Radiotherapy kills them off, I asked my oncologist if there was a timescale for Radiotherapy after starting Hormone Therapy and she said in an ideal world between 4-6 months.
My Radiotherapy was just over a year after starting Hormone Therapy, however I was waiting for a TURP operation and we agreed to delay the Radiotherapy until after the operation. She said the delay won't make any difference in my treatment.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi @porthleven
I started on the Darolutamide bit of my triplet therapy at the beginning of Feb this year having been on Zoladex since diagnosis in September last year. I had chemo Feb-May. Around April my consultant started to talk about RT but it wasn’t until August that I got to sign the Consent document. I had surgery for a hernia in mid September so needed minimum six weeks recovery before RT. I have my planning scan tomorrow ! So it will be mid-November just over six months from starting Triplet Therapy but over a year since diagnosis. PSA undetectable since April (. was 953).
Stay positive, be strong
