Relugolix and effectiveness

Good evening,

I have a question around Relugolix to see whether others have experience of this hormone tablet and to seek some reassurance.

My OH was first diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer back in April 2024. He registered Gleason 9 and cancer was found in pelvis, hip, femur, lower spine and liver, following a PSA of 20.

Due to heart complications his treatment has been 'light'. After 18 months on Degaralix he was moved to a daily oral tablet - Relugolix. This seemed to be working well until last week when the PSA had risen from 0.5 to 1.6 in 8 weeks. HIs PSA has been 'negligible' (circa 0.4) for 30 months. There has been no action from anyone since then, partly because we have a routine oncology appointment in early November. However we are aware that Reluolix may not be as effective as Degaralix in reducing testosterone and we are of course hoping that it is the change in medication which has caused his PSA to rise and not the cancer gaining strength again.

A bit of a broad question I'm afraid and it could mean many things, but has anyone else found their PSA rising after taking Relugolix for a few months, principally because it was found not to be as effective as 4 weekly hormone injections?

Thank you,

Jenny
