Hi everyone,
I have been on prostap3 since May this year 5 and half months.
Around four weeks ago I noticed a swelling above my collar bone I called my gp and he told me that any swollen lymph node needs to be there for at least 3 weeks before he could refer me on so on Friday there past I called my gp again and he referred me back to oncologist, I had psa taken last Friday and got the results today 24.1... my original psa was 39.1 back in May before I started on hormone therapy prostap3.
I am worried about this as I have read that after 5 months of hormone therapy my psa should be near 0.
As I can't get to speak to my oncologist any time soon so very concerned.
Hi Vmc - I wouldn’t be at all surprised if your consultant adds in abiraterone or similar to help with the hormone therapy (this second drug stops the receptors in the cancer cells from picking up any remaining testosterone, despite the original hormone therapy which, as you say, should have driven down the testosterone to near zero by now. The other path they may consider- a friend of mine also had a swollen lymph node near his collarbone - is chemotherapy. He has had this triple approach and his PSA has been undetectable for over two years now. He’s back at work (he’s a nurse). So don’t despair - there are some excellent therapies in the tool box yet, plus others I haven’t even mentioned. Keep us informed and good luck. AW
