The long wait ....

I've had my f2f with my oncologist this week following on from my last cycle of chemotherapy 3 weeks ago.  My PSA was 0.49 now down to 0.39 which is a positive result.  I've now started the tapering off my steroids over the next few weeks.  Now I'm just readjusting to my new norm IE not having to wear a mask and going where I like and not worrying about how crowded it is.  However, I've now got an agonising 12 week wait before I can have new scans done to see how effective or ineffective the treatment has been.  Me being me I'm envisaging worst case scenario then any other result is a welcomed bonus.  My next oncology appointment is the first week after Xmas to review the results after I've had my scans done.  So basically the run up to Xmas is going to be a very worrying time for me and the only thing I can do is try and keep myself as busy as humanly possible.  Off to the gym on Monday for my first session after receiving my free membership.  Tuesday I have booked train tickets for a day out in Cambridge record shopping.  The following Monday my daughter and I are off to Butlins for the week, when we get back from Skegness I have a weekend of trick or treating planned for my daughter who loves Halloween.  I'm dressing up as beetlejuice and I have designed her a liquorice cookie costume as a surprise.  Further forward I will continue record shopping, regular trips to the gym and continue working on my music projects in a vein attempt to not count down the days till I get to the scans in December, hopefully my hair will have grown back by then.  My oncologist did say if the scans show positive results some radiotherapy may be an option in the new year, keeping everything crossed.

  • Hello

i know it's a wait for the scans and results - BUT your post is a positive post and you are throwing yourself back into life doing things you enjoy - that's a great sign.

Stay positive, keep busy - we are all here with you on this journey - Christmas will be here before you know it and lets hope your meeting after Christmas brings you the news you are looking for. If you need to talk (about anything) we are here.

Enjoy shopping, have a great week at Skegness (that brings back happy memories0 and enjoy Halloween.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian for your kind and supportive words, very much appreciated.  It's going to be very hard because I am a massive worrier but I'm just going to have to try my best to not let it get the better of me.  Like you say, it will be Xmas before I know it.

  • Hi

That is so good to hear that the chemo has finished and you are out of the last three week period.  Just make sure you have your flu and/or covid boosters as you can still be a little weak in the immune department...

Great to hear that the stats are going in the right direction and that you have lots of things planned for the near future, it certainly helps to have short term targets and maybe look for a medium term one as well (another break away sometime?).   Absolutely fantastic to hear you are going to go to the gym, I am missing out at the moment following a hernia surgery so I have to be careful...

I did find that the ramp down period for my steroids was a bit difficult at times, no energy - so just be aware?

My hair started to come back after about three months but I kept shaved for a while to see if it would get stronger. Its about a quarter of an inch long at the moment and a lot finer than it was - I kinda liked the Yul Bryner approach but as winter approaches I fancy some additional insulation!

Wishing you well, enjoy your trips and.....BOO!

    Stay positive, be strong

  • Thanks Krispy, only started tapering 2 days ago but don't really feel any different so hopefully that continues.  I seriously cannot wait for my hair to grow back, my daughter keeps calling me baldy, bless her!! Fortunately I have a beetlejuice wig for Halloween Slight smile
