I am just into my second year of HT (Having had RT 8 months ago). My 3rd x 6 month Decapeptyl injection 4 weeks ago. The effort for me to walk seems more extreme and exhausting than ever after this last injection . I know it’s been effecting my cardiovascular system from my very first one. I am getting quite concerned about the physical effort of just getting about. I have seen posts where some on long term have come off ADT for a period before restarting and wondered if that gives any symptoms respite or is that for a different reason. On the other hand I want to finish the treatment on time. When I started the therapy in 2025 I know I was old 71 but felt younger and fit, I now feel much older than I actually am.
I am also a bit anxious as I have my 3rd post RT PSA coming soon.
Rambling on a bit but am anxious at the moment with where the treatment is taking me.
Best wishes Richard
Hello Richard (Racketballplayer )
I am one of those who stops and starts HT. If you read my profile I started off with a "curative pathway" but with an initial PSA of 182 I thought no!
Sure enough the HT/RT hasn't cleared the cancer and I have what's called a "biochemical recurrence", and now incurable.
The idea of stop / start HT is not to make things easier for me - it's to try and ensure the Decapeptyl keeps on working and the cancer does not get used to the drug. If it does then we need to open the toolbox and step up the treatment.
I am aware your PSA results are now good - you have just had your 6 month injection with one to go. IF and I am sure you do feel the HT is affecting your Quality of Life then you need to have a chat with your oncology team about calling it a day and not having your final 6 monthly injection - but that's a matter for you and the team.
I hope that helps.
Best wishes - Brian.
