Hello, can I run this past you again please? My husband Mike has been on Degarelix since being diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer (spread to bones) last April. Initially his PSA was 0.3 but over recent months has crept up, the last one on Friday is 6.7. Recent bone scan showed significant improvement of existing mets. The urologist had originally said he would refer Mike to oncology when PSA reached 5. Has now picked an arbitrary number of 10 in view of bone scan.
This has caused a huge amount of worry and upset. Mike has never been seen by oncology, his care is overseen by this urologist.
I don’t think his decision making is based on sound guidelines. Does anyone have their care with oncology at Newcastle? On Monday I am going to see if it’s possibly to pay for a consultation to see if Mike’s care is appropriate. My heart is breaking as he is trying to be positive but I am not much help as I’m so anxious.
