my father diagnosed 2 years ago. Gleason 9, mets extensive all over skeleton. Initial PSA 250.

triple therapy and chemo for 9 months. Resistance after 3 months wuth PSA doubling every 4 weeks.
cabacitaxel forb5 rounds but stopped due to high toxicity and increasing PSA. This was in early July.

was told lutetium an option but still no phone call. The PMSA scan was favourable. In Spain so lutetium is funded.

since then, vomiting a couple of times a week, fever episodes once or twice a week. Very constipated the point of needing enemas. Anaemia (mild). Very weak, csn walk 100m once in a while wuth help. Using a walking stick. Incontinence episodes. Fentanyl patch with pain plus morphine pill for breakthrough pain. Sleeping or lying down 70% of daytime hours. Appetite so-so.

lutetium or radium is not really going to happen is it?  Lasts PSA is 222. We’ve been waiting 3 months for the ‘next’ treatment…..

how long can he survive like this? His PSA in June was 57.

  • Hello Fiona (

I am so sorry to read your post - but we are all different.

You need to keep in touch with your father's team and his GP. If his health is getting worse (possibly not all connected with Prostate cancer) they will have the answers for you. I can't answer your question fully as your father is in Spain - in the UK things would I think be different.

All I can suggest is you be there for your father if possible and make some memories between you - I can't give you an answer to your question.

    Kind regards - Brian.
