Can someone please explain why some members feel the need to follow others on here?

I've been in touch with MacMillan community support regarding it, however they don't see an issue with it and have no intention of removing the option. Because of this I am closing my account as I don't feel comfortable with people being able to follow me without my consent

  • Hello Sprinter

I am sorry to read your comments.

If someone wishes "to follow" you then they have to request your agreement to be a "follower". The simple answer is to refuse any requests.

Anyone can read your posts and profile as it's a public group. We keep the Community anonymous so that members can feel free to post their true feelings without any fear. The Community is a safe space for informed discussions and a valuable asset to everyone who uses it. The Community guidelines ensure that everyone is safe.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi Brian, that is different to what I've been told in email communications with MacMillan. They say anyone can follow you without your consent, whereas friend requests need your permission.

I just can't understand why someone whom I've had no contact/interaction with would choose to follow me, I accept everyone can see my posts but I feel uncomfortable with people following me

  • Hmm - Interesting - I've just had a look a my profile and everyone on my "followers" list is also om my "approved friends" list, Indeed I am not sure how i would even "follow" someone!!

    Kind regards - Brian.
