Blood Donation

I was a regular blood donor up to my diagnosis when interventions and pending urgent surgery for a radical prostratectomy prevented me from donations.  The surgery last June was successful and afterwards my PSA score was untraceable and has remained so thankfully!  Once I had that first full result I booked a blood donation.  My stats were good but when the nurse talked to me and heard about the prostratectomy she told me that I was no longer eligible to give blood and I was sent away.

Has anyone had a similar experience and is there any explanation of the reasoning behind the Blood Donation service's reason for this exclusion?
