Focal Therapy

For anyone who missed the press release this morning, Prostate Cancer patients with early stage diagnosis, today’s announcement could be great news. Same outcomes as both prostatectomy or RT but many fewer side effects.

Whilst most on here will know, focal therapies are not new, but I see their introduction into mainstream treatments as a major breakthrough.  Maybe the great debate about surgery or RT for those on a curable diagnosis will be a thing of the past.  Congratulations to the researchers, now hurry up and find a cure for stage 4 please!

  • I agree that this is great news, David.

A friend of mine chose to go this route 3 years ago and is doing well (low PSA, no HT) He was t2 gleason 7, ideal candidate. He had to go privately at that time, now should be possible on NHS if you push.

Should be carefully noted that I believe that this will only be available if the cancer is confined to the prostate gland.

Eg not in my case t3a N1, nor M1. It's wonderful to see advances every year now. Our donations to PC research are thankfully bearing fruit.
