Any tips on hot flushes while on relugolix.

just 3 days in and getting  at least 1 an hour , is that standard?  a bit sweating also.

lasting about 2 or 3 minutes. it's the only medication they gave me so far.  how are you all  coping with it?

  • Hello, I'm on a different hormone regime. Decapepeptyl and Enzalutamide. I get the hot flushes but not as regularly as you. They don't seem to last that long and I'm just riding them out for now. My local cancer charity, Force, has offered me a course of Acupuncture but we're holding off on that and waiting to see if they get worse. Mind you in this weather it's hard to distinguish them sometimes.

  • Same here, I get them mostly at night for about 90 seconds. I ignore them as the last thing I want to do is stuff more drugs into my body.

  • In the latest heatwave I have found something that helps if I act fast enough.

My youngest daughter bought me a hand-held fan. I was doubtful.

For some reason if I train the fan on the back of my neck and along the hairline the flush reduces both in severity and length, and may fade away altogether.

This has to have the warning that we are all different, and what works for me might not work for anyone else. I have, however, become somewhat paranoid about leaving the house without it.

i have also found that chugging a medium amount of cold water as soon as i feel a flush coming on also reduces both severity and length. It is also handy for keeping me hydrated.

    Changed, but not diminished.
  • Iam in relugolix  I get them several times during day and night they are a nitemare, I drink lots off water, especially  if I'm in the middle off one ,or stand in front off the fan,

  • Hello Mike

I have been on Decapeptyl for 3.75 years. At the start of my journey the hot flushes were bad - so bad we were changing the bed sheets daily.

I started on Sage Tablets (Menoforce) and within a couple of weeks they stopped and I haven't had one since - still on the Sage though they don't work for everyone.

Your GP can prescribe Medroxyprogesterone - this also works for most men.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • What brand and dosage of sage do you use Brian?

My oncologist recommended primrose oil but said it might take them 6 months to work!

My hot flushes havnt been too bad until the heatwave which came at the same time as my 6 sessions of RT, I guess I'm lucky that its only my ears and face that gets hot.

We have a big fan in the bedroom but my wife bought me a little 3 speed USB desk fan which I placed bedside and its been absolutely brilliant.I also keep a wet flannel in a plastic bag and find a quick face wipe really helps with the fan blowing on the wet skin.

  • Hello

I use Menoforce it’s one Tablet 51mg of Sage every day. My sweats dried up well inside a fortnight. You can get them from Holland & Barrett or Amazon.

    They are a tad expensive!

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian

Its worth the expense if I can get a good night's sleep!

  • Hi Brian

i'm certainly going to try the sage method.  are they just standard tables that you buy anywhere or a special brand?

you say you have been on them for 3 half  years,  are you still on them?

got my results today,  cancer in my seninal vesticles  but not in lymph nodes or bones.

hot flushes are the worse, nearly every 30 minutes.

  • I've had severe hot flushes day and night when I started HT, I was eventually prescribed medroxyprogesterone 20mg which sorted it. I've been on it for over 2 years with no side effects.

    Hope this help
