Adkal and Alendronic Acid

My husband did not have calcium and vit D whilst on ht - although I think it should have been prescribed. After coming off the ht a dexa scan showed he had osteoporosis . Like you, he did not like the side effects of alendronic acid and declined to take it. He does take the supplements though.

Another one here. I've been on Calcium and Vitamin D tablets for almost 4 years and was offered Alendronic Acid 9 months ago when I went back on HT. Having read of the "possible" side effects I too declined it.

At 70 and reading my last MRI - yes my body isn't 100% and there's plenty of wear and tear on my various bones  - but I think I will let nature take it's course rather than risk those possible side effects - thank you.

I've been on both adcal and alendronic acid for over 2 years, no side effects. I do have frequent dental check-up (every 6 months) to ensure everything is in order, as while you can have fillings, you can't have extractions while on this medication.

I did have to get a dentist's approval before it got prescribed.

Hi Beerandrocks I have been on AdCal and Alendronic Acid (Risedronate Sodium) for 9 years.  No problems as far as I know.

My Oncologist wrote to my GP due to my proposed 24 months of Decapeptyl and recommended Alendronic acid. I read up about it and requested a DEXA scan through my GP. I would consider taking it the Scan results showed I needed to. Fortunately the results showed healthy bones (after 9 months of ADT). I would get a DEXA first then consider the proposal.

When we told the oncologist my husband was already taking a Vitamin D3 with K2 supplement,  he just said "Oh, right" and moved on.

We get ours from British Supplements. 

Hello, can’t comment on alendronic acid tablets but I’ve been on zoledronic acid every 4 weeks for 5 years, plenty of water beforehand and it’s ok. It’s given via an IV so maybe ask about this, it’s from same group of medications. Take care
