Hi, I’m 50 diagnosed at end of 49 Just been diagnosed with Gleason 7 3+4 and PSA 3.1 Last test Jan 26 Following consultant appointment I have currently chosen AS. Biopsy was 24/04/26 ,Just wanting to know in other peoples views how should work as in regards communication / updates as I was informed at my diagnosis consultation 14/05/26 my last PSA was in Jan and told I should have a new PSA test asap, so new test done on 1st June, looked on the NHS APP - and says I can’t view until 29th June ???? No contact from anyone so I would assume all ok? However I had to see a GP based on your help in my last forum msg that I speak with my GP regarding ED - after questioning etc said that I don’t have a major issue but netherless gave me a prescription for 4 tablets and said see if that helps! At same time asked if I should have been contacted by my GP or Consultants as bit concerned regarding this and how AS should work, GP said they could look at bloods PSA result and before they could tell me I saw it on the screen and it was 6.02 so I then asked that’s nearly doubled ? Should someone have contacted me ? GP said not really until they have three results to use as a baseline. Sorry for long winded msg but even after talking to GP I am still no clearer on how AS is supposed to work. regards Leroy

So for a man aged 50 your expected PSA should be around 3.5.

Every health authority and GP practice works in their own way so personally if no one contact you from either Urology at the hospital or your GP practice I would request a further PSA test at the start of September with your GP.

Just out of curiosity what did your MRI say about the cancer in the prostate gland? Was it anywhere near the gland edge?

Thanks for your reply. I have the second scheduled three monthly PSA test end of August but as this one was so different to before I have a repeat one booked for Monday as I wondered if it was because it was too near to my biopsies as I had to have two biopsies in a 4 week period due to the first sample size being too small.

MRI showed it was in the left side, although I have asked for specifics on location and how near to edge etc but am still yet to have this clarified.

I understand your concern, PSA doubled over a few months, Just keep your eye on that one

Mine went from about 4 to about 13 over 4 years on AS.

As u have mentioned, yes find out how near to the gland edge tumour is and can help if u know tumour size

Mine went from about 3mm to 13mm over the 4 years.

So, AS can be ok but keep your eye on things and if PSA goes over 10 fairly quickly I would probably look for treatments.
